Ghosts of Venice - Discovering the unknown

Really poor guide. Spent most of the tour talking in Italian with another person. Didn’t seem clear on any of the stories. Very disappointing. Wanted to leave half way through.

We were very fortunate to have Maria our guide all to ourselves and she gave 100% . Her English language was excellent and her knowledge of Venice history was exemplary and made the tour very interesting, answering all our questions even when going off the topic .

Some good stories from a well informed guide. Most stories based on myths/ legends rather than ghost stories but as tours go it was okay. Guide didn’t seem to be expecting so many of us on tour so we were all given radios which enabled us to hear guide. Teenage kids found it a bit boring.

Let me start by saying, WE ABSOLUTELY MESSED UP BY BEING LATE- UNACCEPTABLE. That’s said, we got a little lost and showed up about 10 mins after the tour had departed. We arrived to the office building and the receptionist told us the tour was gone and we had missed our opportunity. I asked if she knew what way they went so we could wander around and try to find a tour group and she said no. I asked for any other info regarding the tour so we could just make an attempt to find the group and she was incredibly unhelpful, no effort at all to help us at least try to connect with the group. My friend and I wandered for a min, and I returned to the office asking if there was someone she could call to reach out to their guide... of course there isn’t. I’m super annoyed and asked her for her name so I could let her boss know that she obviously doesn’t have the resources she needs to be successful with customer service. She refused to give me her name. She did eventually call her supervisor who was able to give me the guides name, but said she couldn’t reach out to her because she was a contracted employee... :|. Needless to say, we did not have the opportunity to experience the tour.

Lucia was knowledgeable and fun. We had a blast with the tales and sights of the city! She also gave us advice on good restaurants and drinks!

Please avoid this tour with Viator!! My fiance and I were very interested in taking this tour because of the wonderful stories we would learn from Venice and take home to share with our family and friends. However, our local tour guide came off so inexperienced guiding/navigating a small tour group of nine people; lacked presentation skills to the point that his stories seemed fragmented - we were left unable to make out what he was saying and we were only able to understand when all of us would put these fragmented pieces together from what little each one of us understood. He wouldn't set up the stories by stopping and pointing to what he was supposed to be talking about but instead kept walking and talking to the air (or at best to only one person), avoiding eye contact and giving us his back for most of the time. We finally had to say something and give him some pointers. He needed constant redirecting and reminders as if we were training him on his very first day!!!! We were beyond frustration and it was such an infuriating experience because of all the rich cultural knowledge we believe we missed out on and for which we PAID!!!! In my personal opinion, he showed no respect for the cultural stories he was supposed to share with us - utter disrespect for the wonderful culture that Italy has to offer. I do NOT recommend this tour with this agency if this is an example of their expectations and how they train their tour guides. Please give other agencies a try, such as with Free Tours, which are based on tips only. Free Tours has not disappointed yet because they actually seem to care about providing you with the best presentation, and cultural information. I believe that there's a certain cultural responsibility when a tour guide presents information that people from all over the world are going to share with others, and this person didn't seem to care enough or take this responsibility seriously. When we asked for a refund, they stated that “Bucintoro Viaggi, have advised that no refunds will be issued as they did not accept the type of complaint provided.” Once again, please, please, please AVOID!!!!!!! When others attempted to get a refund, they were denied as well. Viator is such a money making machine that they don’t care about providing people with, at the bare minimum, decent service. This was a fun way to find out a little bit more about some of the lesser known stories. The guide was super knowledgable and interesting.

the spots and ideas of the stores were good but the story telling was not nearly what I expected from a ghost tour. overall a good intro to Venice though

Not worth the money. Boring tour. Guide was not interested. Tour was cut short by 45 minutes which was fine by us as it was so boring. If you do other tours such as Doges Palace Secret Itineraries you learn so much more.
