Great experience!

Great half day trip!

This was such a great half day trip! Oscar our driver was very conscious of us and our needs throughout the excursión. The tribal experience was eye opening but the best part of it by far was seeing the young sloths in the nursery! We were able to stop and get a bocadillo but it might be a good idea to bring snacks.
Not what we expected

Juan Manuel and trainee Juan Augustino were pleasant and good tour guides. Our disappointment in this tour relates to the description on the Viator site. Under "what to expect" it says "minimal walking". That is true for the "replica" village, but to get there one hikes switchbacks down a long hill on a dirt and rock trail with flimsy railings...this tour is not for elderly or those with medical issues. The description says "arch and arrow", which was not offered to us. The description says "stop at Ciudad Colon to see way of life", but our driver drove through town without a stop and no commentary about the town. The chief talked too much about past and current troubles, but little about actual way of life.
Easy and worthwhile day trip from SJ

Great experience with Juan! He was the all-encompassing guide, unlike other tours where they pass you off to someone else. We were in San José for 2 days for a wedding and wanted to fill the morning before with an activity. If you are looking for something close to the capital city that is low key but still a great cultural/wildlife experience, this is it! We were back by 2pm without issue. I would recommend this tour over the other similar one to local towns—meeting the indigenous tribe leader and touring the reservation was a very unique experience. My only advice is to bring snacks and water because they are not provided. Thanks Juan and team for a great day!
Interesting experience!

Juan was our guide on this tour and was very personable and knowledgeable. Our first stop was at an animal rescue centre and Juan was able to tell us all about the various animals we were seeing, the circumstances that resulted in their arriving at the centre and their prospects. Although you can not touch the animals, you are able to get very close so interact in quite an intimate way, which I loved.
Our next stop was to visit with the chief of a local indigenous mountain tribe. He does not speak English, so Juan was a very capable translator. It was interesting to hear about their traditions and beliefs, but a little sad. It seems unlikely that their traditions will be sustainable for many more generations. All the more reason to try to understand their history.
The only reason I’m not giving this 5 stars, is that it would have been nice to have a lunch stop, since we had to have breakfast at 6:00 for a 7:00am pickup and we got back about 1:30. So bring a snack for the drive back to SanJose, which is about an hour.
An interesting outing with a very nice guide, which we enjoyed very much!
We perform checks on reviews
You can only submit a review or rating of an experience to Viator if you were the person who made the booking through Viator. Before publication, each review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information for each of the following criteria: who, what, how, and when. If the system detects something that contradicts our publication criteria, the review is not published. When the system detects a problem with a review, it may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site. In some cases, we will also send you an email asking you to validate your review before it is published. All you need to do is click on the link provided in the email. After publication, our team checks each review reported to it as not meeting our publication criteria. Tripadvisor reviews that appear on the Viator site are subject to the same checks and moderation processes as set out above. It is not necessary to have booked an experience through Viator (or Tripadvisor) to submit a review of an experience to the Tripadvisor site.

Sorting, ranking, and search results
Viator wants to make your searches as relevant as possible. That’s why we offer many ways to help you find the right experiences for you.
On some pages, you can select how to sort the results we display and also use filter options to see only those search results that meet your chosen preferences. You’ll see explanations of what those sort options mean when you select them.
You’ll see some experiences with a “Promoted” badge, which means that the operators of those experiences have agreed to pay Viator more to have their experience highlighted.
If you see an Experience Award Winner label, the award is based on average review ratings, share of bookings with a review, and number of bookings through Viator over a 12-month period.
The importance of any one factor over any other in a sort order varies, and the balance is constantly being reviewed and adjusted. We’re always updating our systems and testing new ways to refine and improve your results to make them as relevant as possible to meet your needs.
