This activity will end right where it started.
Board your luxury coach, and travel from Rome to Tuscany with its scenic, rolling hills. Your first stop is Montepulciano, a town renowned for its fine wine and views. The Renaissance hilltown is best-known for its production of Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, a full-bodied red wine. Learn about it on a walking tour, and discover highlights such as the Florence-style clock tower, the cathedral with its yet-to-be-finished façade, medieval wine cellars, and the old town walls.

After a break for photos, travel further into Tuscany to explore the area around Montalcino. Step inside Sant’ Antimo Abbey, and then soak up the vistas that stretch beyond the vineyards.

Hear how the local vineyards produce the acclaimed Brunello di Montepulciano wine, and then sample a glass for yourself over a 3-course lunch at a local farm. In traditional Tuscan style, the menu features fresh farm-grown produce as well as a selection of local wine.

From the farm, travel on to Pienza, one of the region’s UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Here, enjoy free time to explore. The layout of the town was created by Pope Pius II, who wanted to change the look of his birth town. Admire the historic center, which stays true to the pope’s vision, and gaze at the fine architecture that abounds. If you are a fan of food, check the shops for pecorino cheese, arguably Pienza’s most prized product.

Your day trip finishes with your coach journey back from Tuscany to Rome.

Our guide was wonderful. Very attentive to my wife’s needs. She was also extremely knowledgeable and a pleasure to listen to. The restaurant experience was also amazing. Such a beautiful location and exactly how I pictured Tuscany to look.

Fun and beautiful tour of Tuscany

This was a great tour! Andrea, our guide, was super fun, knowledgeable and chill. The tasting and meal were delicious and we got to see some stunning vistas on a perfect sunny day. For those type A planners, I wanted to give some more details I wish I’d had when booking. It’s a long day — about 12 hours, so be prepared with comfortable shoes or anything else you think you’ll need. You can leave your belongings in the bus and they’ll be safe and locked up. The day starts early at 7:30 and you’ll get on a big bus toward Tuscany promptly. After an hour or so, you’ll have a stop in a nearby town for some typical Italian breakfast - coffee and pastry (not included). There’s also a little shop with local snacks like olive oils, truffles, and candies. You’ll stop here on your way back toward Rome again, so don’t worry if you don’t pick anything up in the first go. You’ll get to the beautiful town of Montepulchiano at around 10:30 or 11. Here you’ll get a guided tour of the village in smaller groups. Admittedly, I didn’t love this part. I like some context and history but would have rather explored on my own. The tour is pretty much all uphill so if you have any mobility issues, it may be challenging. We had a few minutes after the tour for a bathroom break and then got back on the bus. At this point, we headed to a beautiful church with the most amazing vistas. You’ll spend about 15 minutes there for some picture-taking and then head to the restaurant for lunch and tasting. The restaurant was lovely, as were the adorable hostess sisters. Our meal was delicious — we had a fruit salad, meats and cheeses, delicious veggie toasts, and then a 200 year old pasta recipe that was simple but tasty. I’m not sure I would call the lunch 3 courses because dessert was only some small biscotti. If you’re really hungry, this might not be enough food. When it came to the wine, they were all fantastic but I want to stress it was a tasting — a few sips. We tried 3-4 reds, a rose, a white, and a dessert wine. However we weren’t able to order a full glass of something we loved, although you could buy a bottle to go. A few of us felt like we wanted to drink way more than we actually did. The next stop was about 30 minutes away, a gorgeous village called Pienza. This was gorgeous — the most beautiful view we saw. We had about an hour to flit around and explore, so we posted up at a little restaurant overlooking the Tuscan countryside and got another bottle of wine. One of our favourite spots for sure! We stopped again for one more rest at the same place we’d been to in the morning, and then got back to Rome at about 7pm. All in all, it was a fun and enjoyable day! I just wanted to give some more detail about the length of the day, the food, and the wine.

Great excursion! Highlight of our trip so far.

We are in Italy for 10 days and this - so far - has been the highlight of our adventure. I didn’t give it 5 stars because of our tour guide. She was very knowledgeable about the area but just talked too much on the bus. Seemed like she enjoyed hearing herself speak and after a while it got really annoying. Also, she was a little too adamant about the time at stops. At one point, I was reprimanded for taking an extra minute or two to take pictures. Excuse me, but I’m here on vacation and paying quite a bit of money. I shouldn’t be reprimanded for wanting to stay back an extra minute or two or even five!! Finally, the place we should have spent more time at was limited to 10 minutes. The guide also suggested we don’t shop because it’s too expensive. Again, don’t dictate where and how I should spend my money. And I’m sure the shop owners wouldn’t appreciate her making such a suggestion. Overall, it was a great excursion but could’ve been even better with some tweaks.
