Travel from Rome to Tivoli by air-conditioned coach to start your day trip. As you travel, listen to your guide’s commentary about Tivoli, a historic town in the Monti Tiburtini hills. A prestigious vacation spot in the days of Ancient Rome, the town is now popular for its two UNESCO World Heritage Sites: Hadrian’s Villa and Villa d’Este.

Your first stop in Tivoli is at Hadrian’s Villa for a walking tour. Hear how the villa belonged to Emperor Hadrian who desired an unassuming vacation home as a tribute to his lover. By modern standards, his ‘humble abode’ could be considered a town in its own right.

The ruins of the emperor’s impressive estate consist of more than 30 buildings, and you’ll see the highlights as you explore. Discover the complex ruins of the old imperial palace as well as thermal baths, temples, libraries and subterranean passages that are wide enough for vehicles.

Enjoy lunch at your own expense, and then continue to Villa d'Este: explore the former Benedictine convent, and see why many consider the villa to be one of the finest of the Renaissance era.

As you explore, hear how Villa d’Este was built as an opulent abode for the son of Lucretia Borgia, a 15th-century duchess who attracted drama and gossip wherever she went. Make your way past the Fountain of Neptune, and wander through the gardens to see waterfalls, fountains and centenary trees.

Leave Villa d’Este after your tour, and then relax on your journey back to Rome.
Itinerary
Stop At:
Villa Adriana
This enchanting day trip from Rome begins with a 40-minute bus ride to Hadrian’s Villa. The vastness of Hadrian’s estate is a sight that will surely impress. The Emperor chose to build his residence outside the city in a place rich in water, in order to build the famous Canopus, one of the most preserved sites left in the complex. The statues surrounding this pool of water create stunning reflections on its surface, beautifully surrounded by luscious green gardens

Stop At:
Villa d'Este
We will leave the alluring ruins of the 2nd century A.D. far behind as we travel on to the 14th century to our second destination, Villa d’Este - one of the most beautiful Renaissance villas in Italy. This splendid palace, with its extraordinary gardens filled with hundreds of fountains, will leave you feeling captivated. Bernini’s monumental Neptune’s Fountain is considered the most impressive, its water jets reaching a height of 10 meters. Not to say that the Central Fountain and the Oval Fountain won’t leave you equally in awe

Hadrian’s villa and the stories behind the ruins with the shades of the trees and breeze of the mountain air makes it more pleasant than Pompeii. Villa d’Este with all the fountains and mist - love it.

A great day trip from Rome

The day trip was wonderful our guide was fantastic and knew much about the sites and the history. The ruins were fascinating and you really felt like you understood what the site was like in all it’s glory. Our guide tied the ancient site with the renaissance age villa d’este which was magnificent. We wish we had more time there but that wold have meant less time at the ruins which were wonderful. We leaned a lot and without our guide it seeing both woof hit be the same.

Great Tour Guide to beautiful sites

Great day with Joseph the tour guide, who was very friendly, well educated and concerned about our comfort and satisfaction all day long. We booked this tour the night before and everything went smoothly. Central location for pick up, pleasant staff. Good time division between these 2 meaningful sites.

Hearing the organ music created by the water pressure. Both sites were wonderful. Very few people unlike the weekend. The gardens and water features were amazing. Would come bach again.

Villa d'Este is beautiful and the fountains take your breath away. Hadrian's villa ruins are well preserved and worth the visit.

Great time in Tivoli

Best part of my days in Rome is the middle of a summer heatwave. The fountains of Villa D’este were so refreshing on top of being draw droppingly beautiful. It’s a bit of piece and quiet and a break from the hectic atmosphere of Rome. The town of Tivoli was lovely, and the locals very friendly.

A nice day trip from Rome

A great experience. Hadrian’s Villa and Villa D’Este are a great side trip from Rome and nice to get away from the city. We had lunch on our own which was great with plenty of places to go in town. We had lunch at Ariston not far from the meeting point in Tivoli which I would highly recommend. Sit down outdoors with excellent food and prices. Lunch for 4 with drinks for 40 euro. The only negative on the tour was the sound system with constant crackling and difficulty to hear through the headset.

Loved the trip and the sites unfortunately the guide was quite monotonous, bored and boring. Planning to go back with better explanations hopefully

Guide was ok, if a little lazy. Audio devices didn’t work well for anyone, which meant no one could hear the guide most of the time.

Well organised, meet up point easy to find, guide excellent. Highly recommended. LOTS of walking but well worth the views, the history and the grandeur of it all. Go off the beaten track for lunch, the restaurant "suggested " although very good, is pricey. Overall well worth it, nice to get away from the crowds In Rome.

AMAZING!!! Giuseppe (sorry if I spelled it incorrectly), was our guide and he was personable and very knowledgeable! My husband I I really enjoyed this tour!! There's a lot of walking and steps to climb, but it's well worth it! Thank you for making our trip to Tivoli fun and educational Giuseppe! From the couple from North Carolina, USA (#13), we had to leave the group and go to the bus before our green group due to my feeling a bit unwell. (Thank you for coming onto the bus to make sure we made it back to the departure point and to say "goodbye"! 😊) I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this tour! Also there is an amazing little souvenir shop, run by the loveliest lady, near the leather shop that Giussepe had the group meet at and across from Alice Pizza (delicious pizza btw). Definitely check out her shop, if you get a chance! She is so nice!!!

The historical sights were great, but we also paid for the included lunch, which was very poor. There are much nicer places to eat nearby, so I recommend you do lunch on your own.

Very Frustrated

The taxi service in Rome was on strike that day. As a tourist just arrived the day before I had no idea. I planned to take a taxi to the meeting place since I was not familiar with the city. But after spending a lot of time I finally realized there was no taxi and I had to take a bus. I realized I would be late and so I called the “trip operator” phone number provided. But no one answered. By the time I arrived I was 10 minutes late. So I missed the trip. Later, I called the company they would not consider letting me switch to the trip the next day. Neither would they refund me. They said they were just local branch and I should contact Aviator. I am totally disappointed with such lack of empathy and such unhelpful way of doing business. Now I hope Aviator would refund me since transportation strike should be totally understandable. I found this whole thing very disappointing. I probably will write on the internet to remind people.
