Returns to original departure point
Get picked up at your hotel in Rome or choose to meet your guide near Termini Station. Then hop on your comfortable coach for the journey to idyllic Castelli Romani, a collection of hill top towns outside of Rome. The guided tour takes you first along the legendary Appian Way, the ancient Roman road that went southward all the way to Brindisi. See the Baths of Caracalla and the Chapel of Domine Quo Vadis along the way.

The first stop is Castel Gandolfo, where the pope historically retreats in the summer to escape the heat of Rome. The placid diminutive town is packed with historic sites, including the Church of St. Thomas of Villanova, designed by Baroque master, Gian Lorenzo Bernini.

After lingering a while in town, head with your guide to Grottaferrata and Rocca di Papa, two small towns that are known for their gastronomic delights. Learn about why porchetta, a juicy pork dish, is famous here, and then head further up into the Alban Hills to the village of Frascati, a spot well known for its wine production. Take in the incredible views of the surrounding countryside, perhaps wander around the village on your own for a short time, exploring all its nooks, and then sample a glass of locally-made wine.

Hop back on the coach and head back to Rome where you'll be dropped either at Termini Station or another central location.

Relaxing Tour Of Countryside Rome
shelouin
, Oct 2018
We enjoyed the driving tour to Frascati. It was an enjoyable break from the fast pace in Rome. Frascati is a lovely, quaint town with beautiful views of the volcanic lake along the way. And the food at the end is very good! The only reason for a rating of less than 5 is that the driving is very fast. The guide points out several interesting places along the way, but the bus zips by too quickly for good pictures.

Decent experience for a quick half day getaway

There was a lot of driving and a little bit of walking. My friend and I were looking for something to do for a few hours between arrival and hotel check in. We got some good overview info from the guide on the bus, which helped us ease into a week in Rome. Went to a few (2?) towns and walked a bit, got some photos. At the end, we had a great light meal and got to know our other travelers.

There was no exploring of Castelo Gandolfo . We saw most of these attractions from the bus. We did walk through Francati for the snack @ 30. I would have preferred to use that time to explore.

It was nice to see the scenery out side of Rome. It was a present drive and not as busy as Rome. Give us time to relax and enjoy the scenery. Good for people that want to take it easy and relax.

A quite and indeed a romantic tour. The guide knew her theme and explained to us the history of every village we passed by.The dinner was reasonable and the wine was excellent. My suggestion would be to increase the duration of this excursion by at least one hour. The view of Albano lake was breathtaking .

We stayed in Rome for 5 days and wanted a trip outside the city. Although this was a pleasant trip, it wasn't exactly what I expected. This is a bus tour with one bathroom stop and a final, lovely stop in Frascati. I expected to get off and see up close. I guess I should have read more carefully. The stop in Frascati included a snack and wine. This was a very generous snack that for me was dinner. The wine was plentiful and delicious. We were picked up at our hotel prior to the trip and, best of all dropped off as close as the bus could get each of us to our hotels. The guide made sure we knew how to find our way to the hotel. We were also spontaneously serenaded by our guide....Arrivederci Roma!

We love the tour. The tour guide forgot her name was very knowledgeable of the local area and region. This trip is a good high level overview of the area south of Rome. If you have about 4 hours of free time in Rome take this tour. The lunch was wonderful. We had a selection of meats, vegetables, and fruit. Each table had a bottle of local white wine and in addition we were served really good noodles and sauce. We didn't feel rushed while eating. I would recommend this tour.

I should have read more reviews...

I should have read more reviews prior to booking this, as some of the other reviewers have already discussed the issues that I had with it. I did not anticipate that the whole tour would be on a bus, pointing things out that were behind walls while driving past them. There is one stop prior to dinner at a cafe to get you to buy an ice cream and that's about it. The picture advertising this is amazing, but don't expect to be able to take any pictures like it as you barely see that view. If you manage to be on the right side of the bus you might sneak a glimpse through the trees when you drive past. The dinner was nice. I would never recommend this to friends and wish I had booked something else
