Prepare for an early morning pickup at your La Cruz hotel to make the most of the day, and enjoy the passing scenery on the roughly 3-hour drive to reach the Blue River Resort & Hot Springs. When you arrive, sip a welcome cocktail at the spa and make use of changing rooms to prepare for your eco hike.

Take another short drive to reach a private park along the Rio Pénjamo, also known as the Blue River thanks to its rich, mineral-infused hue. Hike along lush rain forest trails that wind past creeks and several different waterfalls, where you can cool off with a dip in natural pools at the base.

After the hike, replenish your energy with lunch back at the resort, followed by several hours of leisure time to unwind in true Costa Rican style. Soak away your cares in natural volcanic hot springs, splash into a freshwater pool via a bullet water slide, or take a mineral mud bath alongside a river. For an extra dose of pampering, you can purchase a treatment from the resort’s full-service spa.

You can also stroll through tropical botanical gardens blooming with more than 700 plant species, see winged wonders at the butterfly and hummingbird gardens, spot reptiles at the caiman and turtle lagoons, or visit the resort’s resident miniature horses and donkeys. Around 4 pm, collect your belongings and relax on the return drive to your hotel.

Discover a Lush Rainforest with Blue Rivers, Grand Waterfalls and Natural Hot Springs found only on the north side of the smoking volcano, Rincon de la Vieja. Grand waterfalls, jungle walks, exotic plants and wildlife, an amazing blue river, mud bathing, hot springs, botanical gardens and butterfly gardens. Itinerary 8:00 am: Aprox pick-up from hotels in Liberia (to be confirmed) 10:00 am: Arrive for a welcome cocktail. Change clothing 10:30 am: Depart for a short drive and arrive at Grand Waterfalls for a dip in the pools. Set out on nature walk into the tropical rainforest, before coming upon the out-of-this-world blue river, Pénjamo. 12:30 pm: Return to Blue River Resort to enjoy a delightful lunch à la carte. 1:30 pm: Time for natural mud bath and sauna, Botanical gardens, Butterfly Gardens 2:15 pm: Soak and swim 3 natural mineral "green" hot springs pools and 2 fresh water pools with bullet water slide 4:00pm: Return in time for dinner.
