Overview

Many visitors to France make time to visit both the Palace of Versailles and Monet's Impressionist garden at Giverny. This day trip from Paris allows you to do both. First, wander through the lush landscape around the artist’s residence, which served as inspiration for his Nymphéas (Water Lilies) series. After lunch, head to Versailles and visit Louis XIV's lavish royal palace. On particular dates, you see the fountains on display.

  • Stroll through Monet's inspirational garden at Giverny and learn from your guide

This activity will end right where it started.
Leave Paris for a full-day tour of two of the most popular day trip destinations outside the French capital, Louis XIV's Palace of Versailles and Monet's garden in Giverny.

Your first stop is Giverny, where Impressionist master Claude Monet lived from 1883 until his death in 1926. Walk across the Japanese bridge and gaze upon the water lily pond while you stroll the gardens that surround his former home. This picturesque landscape was the inspiration for many of his most famous paintings, including the Nymphéas series.

After a guided tour of Monet's gardens, it's time for a hearty lunch at the Moulin de Fourges. This 18th-century mill, inspired by the Queen's Hamlet, has been transformed into a restaurant and inn. From there, continue by coach to Versailles.

The opulent décor at the Palace of Versailles—once the extravagant home of King Louis XIV and Marie Antoinette—includes the Hall of Mirrors and the Royal Grand Apartments. On your guided tour, try to imagine daily life for the royal family. Then enjoy some free time in the World Heritage-listed Versailles Gardens and wander among the groves, sculptures, and fountains. On particular days, from April to October, they are part of a musical Fountains Show; if you're lucky you'll see this special display (cost included), set to the tunes of Louis XIV's era, before your day trip concludes with travel back to Paris.

Julien was an excellent tour guide, motorcoach very comfortable. Beautiful day to visit these sites! Giverny was breathtaking, and the gardens beyond expectations. We enjoyed the lovely lunch in a nearby village. Versailles and the gardens were beyond description and crowded! Julien was a wealth of information and considerate of all of us. Pleased we booked this tour!

What an interesting day! The tour guide was incredibly knowledgeable, Monet’s gardens and Versailles were incredible, and lunch was wonderful. What was particularly interesting about this tour was the juxtaposition of Monet’s gardens to the palace of Versailles. Both devoted to beauty, but on completely different terms. I’m not sure why the tour bus decided I was best suited to stay at the palace of Versailles, but I will take it as a compliment, as perhaps they believe I should be incorporated into the palace as permanent exhibit. I do have to say though, the royal beds were quite small, and I’m not sure if I would fit into them. Also, the lack of air conditioning could end up being an issue during the hot summer months. As such, while we were admittedly (and exactly) five (5) minutes late to the agreed upon departure time, I would have preferred discussing being left at the palace of Versailles before the bus left without us. Long story short, for all of you researching whether to take this tour, be prepared to live at the palace of Versailles because the tour bus may leave you there if you are a few minutes late. Otherwise, it was a great tour.

Create locations, most disorganized staff, hard to understand guide, limited guided tour, mainly on your own.

Beatiful sights but not enough time at Versailles.

The gardens and Versailles were fantastic, as always. The guide not so much. I don't think most people even heard her name? On the one-hour trip to Giverny (at 7:30am) she talked, mostly in monotone, for the whole time. Her English is impeccable and her knowledge vast, but it was like someone reading from an encyclopedia entry. And the volume of system just wasn't adequate. And the headsets used were terrible. Constant static, and again very weak volume. Just took them off since it was giving me a headache. Because of all the 'talking' in Versailles, we had to squeeze in 20 minutes to 'run' through the massive gardens there.

Terrible guide, terrible food, guides left for people at one site and the bus had to return to get them, English was sketchy, had the wrong day tickets to entry cautious 40 minutes of time why they straighten that out the whole experience was very poor

We were fortunate to have a day of perfect weather to enjoy the sights. The highlight of our experience was our outgoing and exceptionally knowledgeable guide, Isabel. She brought the history of both Giverny and Versailles to us in a power-packed and interesting package of information.

Martina was an excellent guide. She was very entertaining and did very well to manage a large group through large crowds of tourists. Martina was very knowledgeable on the history of both locations. We absolutely loved Giverny’s Monet House and the lunch was at a charming restaurant. Palace of Versailles was busy as you would expect but it was an incredible place to visit and learn about the history. We would recommend this tour and any tour with Martina. Thank you for a fabulous day.

We were SO excited for this tour. And ur was quite expensive. We awoke very early to ensure we would arrive at the departure location in plenty of time, however, the metro was stopped and evacuated on the way. We missed the departure and begged for a reschedule but they would not consider it or refund. I won’t book with them again. Terrible customer service.

Our guide was so well educated and spoke wonderful English. I just wish less time was spent on lunch and more time in Versailles. By the time we got there, we only had 20 minutes in the garden and a little over an hour inside of the palace.

Giverny and Versailles One Day
Tamara_E
, Jul 2022
If you want to see both these places, this is the tour for you! Monet’s gardens were beautiful and lunch was very nice! Only drawback was time at Versailles was too short. I planned my tour specifically on the weekend to see the water fountains but we had to leave before next show. We only had 20 minutes in the Garden. If you want time to see Versailles besides the chateau pick an all day of just Versailles or try to find a smaller tour. We had 30 people and it was frustrating always waiting for those who were late or slow. I would have preferred a small group tour, but I could not find one. Our tour guide was extremely knowledgeable and friendly and was excellent.

Great intro to Versailes/awesome Giverny

The guide was awesome. The trip has 2 parts- first the bus too us to the Village of Giverny. We soent about 2 hrs at the Monet House and gardens, then there was a lunch scheduled at quiant french village hotel. The Palace was the afterNoon affair. Due traffic delays we didn’t have enough time to expolore the gardens, fountains were off for the repairs unfortunately. I would certainly return to Versailles on my own in the future.

Giverny & Versailles--a tour not to be missed!

, Jul 2022
Visiting Monet's famed Japanese footbridge, his gardens and home and studio with expert art insights from our tour guide, Julien, were a highlight. From Giverny Julien drove us to Versailles, advising us on which highlights to see in the gardens and then giving us detailed historical information as we went room-by-room through the palace.

This excursion was fantastic! We were on a very comfortable bus. We spent just the right amount of time in Giverny and at Versailles. Our guide gave us each an audio set which privately broadcast her description of the rooms inside of Versailles, which was very helpful. We were on our own to explore the Versailles gardens and Giverny. The lunch was very, very good. Highly recommend! It was an amazing, full day outside of Paris.
