    Versailles: inside and Out.

There’s no better way to see the surrounding areas of Versailles than on a bicycle. It’s such a large area, it would be nearly impossible to cover it while walking. The tour is perfectly timed and our guide ,Tess, was top notch. I highly recommend this tour, not only do you explore the palace, but the countryside as well.

    Great tour; but physically challenging.

This was very enjoyable, and our guide, Tess, was extremely well qualified. Note that the bicycles were only used to travel among the local town market (where we collected lunch) and the Château’s attractions (the gardens, Petit Trianon, the Grand Canal and the Palace itself), which are spread wide apart. However, the attractions don’t allow bikes inside, so we walked A LOT once we got to each site. That’s okay—Château du Versaille is a big place (the size of a small town, which is essentially what it was), and if we had to do it all on foot, we wouldn’t have seen near as much. Also note: Between the walking and the biking, this tour is a lot, physically. I ride ~20 km every day at home, but I was completely spent at the end of the tour.

The tour is really well organised with an enthusiastic, friendly host (Marley) who did a really good job in progressing us all around the palace gardens whilst answering all of our questions. The market was amazing and she gave us plenty of time to shop for our picnic. The faux peasant village is a must see, and I would have definitely have missed this if I’d gone on my own. Such a lovely day, great group of people. Only thing I’d say is if you go in summer be prepared for the actual palace to be the worst part of the tour! Next time I’d skip it and just do the gardens. The bikes are easy to ride and made it a really fun day.

We had an incredible day biking to the gardens of Versailles. Tess, our tour guide, was extremely knowledgeable and made the day run smoothly for the whole group. I highly recommend this tour, even if you haven't been on a bike in quite some time!

    Versailles tour of the grounds.

Much more walking, around 8 miles, than biking, around 5 miles. Our tour guide, Tess, was great but most of the day was spent outside the Palace and we were exhausted by the main event which was the Palace itself. We didn’t get back to Paris until 6pm. It was a very long day indeed. One highlight was the market in the town where we bought our own lunch. Make sure to buy finger food as no forks and just a couple of knives are provided. A memorable day but not for the faint of heart or out of shape.

First of Viator was easy to work with and I appreciated the text as well as the email with the confirmation and the tickets….my email was spotty so the texts were valuable. Most importantly our tour guide, MARLEY, was exceptional!!! I wish I had a history teacher like her when I was in school. Her knowledge was excellent and she presented history with stories and laughs. Her energy was out of this word. She took the time to get to know us and to personalize parts of the tour. I highly recommend this tour and our guide Marley🚲- Diane and Paul from Boston

A bit too long for what is visited

The site is impressive and the use of the bikes has a lot of potential. the Tour really began 2.5 hours after the meeting time, the stops are a bit too long, too much time is spent in the town (i.e: Market) instead of the palace gardens and premises, bikes are a bit worn out.

Hi Juan, Thanks for taking a moment to give your feedback. It's definitely true that our 2022 season bikes have seen better days! Every year we get a whole new flock of bikes, but unfortunately due to pandemic supply problems, we are working with older bikes this season. Nevertheless, we are persevering and very much looking forward to our new bikes for 2023! Yes, it's true that it does take a while to get to Versailles. Nothing we can do about that! I will have to disagree on it "having potential" though. We feel our Versailles tour, which has been running and changing and morphing for 15 years - meets its potential and exceeds it. I'd like to reply to a few of your points: Tour beings 2.5 hours later - Yes, our meeting time is 8h15 so we can leave between 8h15 and 8h40, depending on arrivals times. It can take between 45 minutes to 1.5 hours to get to Versailles depending on transportation, which changes throughout the summer due to rail works. Once in Versailles we visit the shed to get on our bikes. We realize this takes time - but it is literally unalterable. Too much time is spent in the town - After a welcome history speech at the front of the chateau, we spend between 30-45 minutes at the market, depending on the group. Many people say this isn't quite enough time for their bathroom breaks, and shopping for their picnic. We will not shorten it, as we want everyone to have time to explore each stall and select what they would like for lunch. This is also a very important moment to have a snack, since it is a late lunch. Thanks again for your feedback. If anything were possible to change, we'd take a look at it, but Versailles is huge and complicated and in our expert experience, we've crafted the best way to see it all, and cannot make the day any longer than it already is.

Rachel was a great guide!! But the tour has some kinks that need to be worked out.

    , Aug 2022
The meeting point of the tour is unnecessarily far away from any nearby metro stops. We had to take the metro to get nearby, walk to the cafe (meeting point), and then walk as a group back to the metro. However, this was but a slight inconvenience in an otherwise great tour. Rachel was very engaging and informative, teaching us history in an interesting way, showing us around the gardens, and giving lots of special tips. If you're looking for a tour of the castle itself, this tour is not for you since you get to tour the castle at your own pace at the end of the day. Nevertheless, if you want the full Versailles experience, I would recommend this tour since you get to see much more of the grounds than you would without a bike.

We enjoyed every minute of our time in Paris but our family felt this tour was the highlight. Our guide Joshua was extremely knowledgeable about the history and the area. It was great to get off the beaten path and away from the crowds to see Versailles. Our kids are 14 and 11 and this was perfect for them. We loved getting lunch from the market and enjoyed the picnic by the lake.

    Beware

I would not recommend this tour. We were given train tickets that didn’t work. Our guide told my daughter to enter the train station behind someone with a working ticket which resulted in a $60 fine. We were on our own returning to our hotel at the end of the day and again had tickets that did not work…this time we knew to purchase additional tickets. We were careful to keep the tickets away from our phones so this was not the reason they didn’t work. Out of 10 train tickets, 3 didn’t work. We ended up paying an additional $67.50 than we had originally intended for this tour. There was also much more walking than biking. Was very disappointed.
icon Response from Host , Aug 2022
Hi Heather, I do wish you would have reached out to us regarding what is obviously an unfortunate fluke about your tickets rather than feeling like a one star was merited for a mistake in transit rather than discussing the history, the market, and all the other things about the day. Our guides know well not to ask clients to effectively "jump" barriers or follow someone through because of ticket fines. Even if you keep tickets away from your phones, if they do not work, they are de-magnetized. I'm sorry your guide didn't explain to you that if that happens you can get them re-magnetized at the kiosk. We will speak to your guide. As for the biking and the walking, we note all of this in our details itinerary of the day. I hope anyone reading this review understands that this was an unfortunate fluke, and we have very little train and ticket trouble. Thank you.

Started at Le Peloton for coffee and check in, took train to Versailles where we received bike then headed to market to explore area and get lunch takeaway for picnic. Stunning day with great guide (Noel) and good group. Most pleasant experience was Marie Antoinette village. Highly recommend this excursion!

We enjoyed the history of the Kings and the grounds. However, it was billed as a bike tour but didn’t have much biking
icon Response from Host , Jul 2022
Hi Mike! Thanks for your review. We're glad you enjoyed the history of our Versailles tour. We a very proud to offer one of the more history heavy bike tours of Versailles! I'm sorry you feel there wasn't enough biking, but I can assure anyone reading this that most of the tour is in motion. Of course, we must get to Versailles on the train. Once there we bike to the market. Naturally we park our bikes for the market shopping. Then, we bike over to the Trianons and Marie Antoinette's estate. It is true that there is a fair amount of walking to get to her tiny farmer's village. We aren't allowed to have bikes inside her estate gardens, but we feel the view (and occasionally baby animals!) are well worth the walk! The cycle to the canal is next, with picnic in the grass. After, there is a cycle back. It's true that we primarily use our bikes as a vessel to get from place to place in order to make Versailles as accessible as possible! In the future, come visit us again and we'll rent you some of our road bikes (at a discount) and you can road cycle all the way to Versailles and even further into the domaine. For those who are more athletically inclined, THIS is a real treat! You'd love it!

This bike tour of Versailles blew us away! The day began at the Peloton Cafe, where we met Joshua and David, the tour guides for the trip. They were courteous and well organized, and made sure everyone was together when we took the train in to Versailles. Joshua was the tour guide for our group, and his knowledge and positive additude made the tour informative and fun. The gardens were breathtaking, and it was so interesting learning about the history behind them. We covered the whole grounds, and while it was certainly a workout, it never felt like a drag. We are so glad we signed up for this tour, if we explored the grounds alone, it would have been a fraction of the Versailles experience we had with this wonderful bike tour. Thanks Joshua!!
