An experience not to be missed!

What a wonderful experience! Minerva was a friendly, warm and patient teacher. We met in the centre of town and walked to the market together, where she explained everything and bought us fruits to sample at home alongside the ingredients for the meal. We then went back to her beautiful home with a traditional outdoors kitchen, where we ate breakfast and learned to make tortillas, a salsa, a mole and more. Her family was very friendly and chatty, we learned a lot and it felt like a very authentic experience. They also gave us the chance to try some pulque and to buy some homemade chocolate. Then we ate our delicious homecooked meal, and they drove us back to the city centre. 10/10 would recommend to anyone who wants to experience Oaxaca a little bit more deeply. Thank you Minerva!

Minerva was fantastic, as was her translator Sandy. The food was delicious and Minerva was very patient answering all of our questions. We made two types of salsa (the chilli and tomatillo one was incredible), memelas, empanadas with pumpkin flower and yellow mole. I really enjoyed visiting Abastos market with her. That market (unlike the more touristy ones closer to the centre) is huge so it would be very easy to get lost without someone who knows their way around.

My husband and I can’t say enough good things about cooking with Minerva. She showed us a traditional way of making mole and it was by far the best mole negro I have ever had in my life. We are still dreaming about it. It is important to note that Minerva does not speak English but her translator does a great job. Highly highly recommend this experience.
