This Ground Zero walking tour begins at St Paul's Chapel, aka the Little Chapel That Stood. St Paul’s is the oldest public building in New York City that’s still actively used. This church somehow survived the falling debris from the 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Center despite being only one block away from the melee. It became a kind of rescue center during the aftermath of the tragedy, and the iron fence that surrounds it became a place for family members to post notices about their missing loved ones.

As the tour continues, walk to the FDNY Memorial Wall and FDNY Ten House. Hear the heroic stories about the emergency responders on that day and see the fire station at Ground Zero.

Finally, enter the National September 11 Memorial, aka the 9/11 Memorial, a tribute of remembrance and honor to the almost 3,000 people who were killed on 9/11 — at the World Trade Center site, in the plane crash near Shanksville, Pa., and at the Pentagon — as well as the six people who were killed in the World Trade Center bombing in February 1993.

There are twin reflecting pools at the very spots where the Twin Towers once stood. Look up and see One World Trade Center’s Freedom Tower.

There is an optional upgrade to include entry into the National September 11 Museum — 110,000 square feet of exhibit space located at the heart of the World Trade Center site. The museum tells the story of 9/11 through multimedia displays, archives, narratives and a collection of artifacts. The lives of every victim of the 2001 and 1993 attacks are commemorated here.
Itinerary
Stop At:
St. Paul's Chapel
We will start the tour at St. Paul's Chapel, New York City’s oldest public building still in continuous use. Just one block away from the 9/11 attacks, it miraculously survived the falling building and debris. St. Paul’s Chapel served as a makeshift rescue center during the aftermath. Its iron fence became a bulletin board where family members posted notices of their missing loved ones. Today, with the mementos received from people around the world supporting New York City, the church serves as both a landmark and a tribute.

The tour that never happened but paid for it! As a result of Southwest Airlines Systems Outage, flight cancellations/delays, we were not able to take our vacation to NY and lost our $$ paid for the 9/11 memorial tickets as well.

Book the right time of day

Our tour guide was fantastic. He did an amazing job of recreating the humble environment that should be observed while at the memorial. I really wanted my teenage children to understand the events that happened that day. My husband and I were very emotional remembering the events. The guide would have a 5 star review. I'm giving it 3 stars because we did the 2pm tour and when we finally made it to the museum the staff informed us the museum would be closing shortly. We didn't have time to enjoy it at all and were rushed through the entire building in 15 minutes. Then when we got outside to the infinity pools they were closing that off as well and we didn't even get to stand next to it. It was a real let down. I would suggest doing the tour but picking an earlier time for two reasons; you won't be standing in the hot sun (if you're there in the summer) and so that you are not rushed through the exhibit.

The walking tour and testimonials The guide provided were really insightful and inspiring; they help to really foster an understanding of the mindset of the victims and heroes there during those months and how the cowardly act committed there continues to plague those lucky enough to survive, and those that have always called NYC home.
