Returns to original departure point
Meet your local foodie guide in the center of Milan. Then, head to Brera and begin to learn about the history of Milanese food and dining, from hearty polenta to breaded veal Milanese to saffron-accented risotto.

Stop at multiple restaurants, cafes, and markets to sample local delights. Tastings vary depending on what's in season, but some likely dishes include melanzane alla parmigiana (baked eggplant with Parmesan and tomatoes), mondeghili meatballs, and traditional Milan dishes. Along with local favorites, enjoy samplings of popular Italian treats like gelato and cannoli, or melt-in-your-mouth slivers of culatello—a prized Parma ham.

Then sample craft beer and a traditional Northern Italian aperitivo.

Conclude the tour in central Milan.
Itinerary
Stop At:
Brera District
Meet your guide near Lanza-Brera Station in central Milan, and then set off on your 3-hour food walking tour of Milan’s historic Brera district. The neighborhood has long been a haven for bohemians, attracting inspired locals and travelers alike with bustling street markets and a vibrant nightlife scene. Your guide dishes on the city's history and cuisine as you walk. Learn how Milan has changed over the centuries, from the Navigli district (home to the city’s ancient, defunct canal system) to the futuristic enclave of Porta Nuova that was constructed to host the Expo 2015. Along with its architecture, the city's cuisine has also evolved over the centuries, but many original dishes remain. Learn about the staples of Milanese cuisine such as rice and polenta, and discover classic dishes like saffron-flavored risotto and veal Milanese.

Stop At:
La Bicicletta Milano
In between walking and talking, enjoy up to six food stops to try some of the city specialties. Samples vary on each tour according to availability, but dishes you may try include traditional melanzane alla parmigiana (baked eggplant with Parmesan and tomatoes), mondeghili meatballs, and traditional Milan dishes. Along with local delicacies, enjoy samplings of popular Italian treats such as gelato and cannoli, or melt-in-your-mouth slivers of culatello — a prized Parma ham. Wash down the food with an artisan Italian beer, and then enjoy a Milan-style aperitivo (or a pre-dinner alcoholic drink) at the trendy art bar La Bicicletta. The aperitivo is big in Milan, and many bars put on a lavish happy-hour buffet with enough food to satisfy the hungriest of appetites. After three hours exploring Brera and its atmospheric eateries, work your way to Piazza XXV Aprile in central Milan, where your tour finishes.

We had a great morning touring the Brera area and sampling delicious specialties of Milan. Our guide, Veronica, was very knowledgeable and friendly. My advice to others is to come to this tour with an appetite, as there was an abundance of food tastings throughout the morning.

Grazie Karen! Veronica is a fantastic guide and a lovely person too :) Milan is not as famous for its food as some other Italian cities but there is so much deliciousness to be found, you just have to know where to go!

Make Sure You Do This

We thoroughly enjoyed our tour. We were the only two on the tour so that made it very special and we appreciated the fact it wasn't cancelled due to small numbers. Marella out guide (probably have spelled this incorrectly), was just lovely and gave us so much extra information about Brera and Milan. We had six stops on our tour and we enjoyed each place. We sampled marocchino coffee and pastries at a bakery to start the tour; prosciutto, mortadella and parmigiano reggiano at a salumieri; risotto milanese and prosecco at a trattoria; a lovely red wine from the Piedmont region at at a wine shop; cannelloni, milanese meatballs and veal polpettes at another trattoria and to finish off the most divine gelato at Don Peppinu. Yes it is a bit on the expensive side but we felt we got value for money.

The guide on this walking tour of Milan was excellent. The pace was easy and we enjoyed learning about the art district. We had tastes of various foods, loved the lasagna, and wine tasting was interesting. We ended up purchasing wine. Would highly recommend the tour.

With only two days to discover Milan and the best it has to offer, this gave the six of us a quick but well rounded tour of the area’s food highlights. The guide made the tour a great experience for everyone with his charm, perfect English and expert knowledge.

The tour was a small group of 12.we started with pastries. Then we had apertivos, followed by risotto rice. Then we had Italian food, followed by gelato.BTW the gelato place was a chain because on the cups they mentioned a location in Hollywood, Fl near to where I live!!! I think the price was high for what we got. I think .the area was nice to see .
