Returns to original departure point
Make your way to the Mérida city center where this tour begins, and meet a guide and small group for the trip out of town on public transit. This is the perfect way to get oriented to Mérida’s bus system as you travel to a small Maya village beyond the city limits.

Trade your seat on the bus for a 4-person, open-sided moto taxi, and head deeper into the jungle to find the first of three cenotes. Learn about the geology of these unground limestone caves, which link up freshwater rivers beneath the surface of the Yucatan Peninsula. Descend a narrow staircase into each cenote, then slip into the cool water to snorkel and swim in the deep caverns.

Continue to a nearby village to see the traditional side of life in the Yucatan and discover local medicine traditions firsthand. See where ancient herbal remedies are prepared in the village ‘drugstore,’ and how families share knowledge across generations. After visiting the village, make the return trip to Mérida, where this tour concludes—if desired, you can keep exploring cenotes on your own, with instructions from the guide on how to get back to Mérida.

A Perfect Day!

You must do this tour if you’re in Mérida and want to explore some cenotes while learning about local Mayan history, geology, culture and food. Lucky enough to have Gustavo as our guide, our group of 5 visited 3 different cenotes, often being the only ones there, and then had a delicious lunch afterwards where they had a vegetarian option for me. One of my favourite days on my holiday and highly recommend it. We had time enough at each cenote to really relax and enjoy. Do yourself a favour and book this adventure right now!!

Very good trip. Keep this going. Our guide Gustav is a rock star! We can feel the passion Gustav has about Mayan culture. He was very good and patient with our child who was getting into the Cenotes to do the swimming. A very nice experience eating in the village. Excellent tour.

One of the highlights to our trip to Mexico. Our guide, Alejo, took us to three beautiful cenotes near Merida, all of which were unique. He provided expert insight on the history, culture and importance of the sites. The moto-tax ride also gave us the opportunity to see the surrounding countryside and pueblos up-close.The value was great for an all-day excursion 7-8 hours, although it should be noted that you don't actual snorkel in the cenotes with fins and a snorkel tube. Due to the size and safety limitations of the cenotes, you swim and dive with a snorkel mask, which was just as fun. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone looking to experience the Yucatan's famous cenotes!
