Your tour begins with hotel pickup at 9:30am, when you’ll board an air-conditioned vehicle destined for Malpica, a small artisan community famed for its oven-baked bread and colorful tiles.

After a brief stop here, you’ll proceed to the town of Concordia, founded in the 16th century by Spanish conquistador, Francisco de Ibarra. Learn about local industry, which includes silver and gold mining, and visit architectural highlights such as the pink San Sebastian Temple and City Hall.

Your next stop is Copala, a village cradled by the scenic Sierra Madre mountains. Wander the cobbled streets and admire red-roofed houses adorned with flowers.

Following a Mexican lunch (own expense), you’ll visit the town’s main plaza and then be transferred back to your Mazatlan hotel.
Stop At:
Your first stop will be made at a rustic brick factory where bricks are made by hand, located at the banks of the Presidio River. Continuing on to the visit to Malpica, an small community where two friendly families started their home businesses: A rustic oven bakery and a handmade artistic floor tile shop using a tile press over 100 years old. The following described towns were founded in 1565 by the Spanish conquistador Francisco de Ibarra, who was the pioneer of the mining industry in the state of Sinaloa and both villages were strategically settled near the silver and gold mining sites. Concordia is a very industrious town, its residents make their daily living working in furniture factories and potteries. Beautiful colonial architecture can be admired here, the most emblematic buildings are: The San Sebastian’s temple made of pink stone, the French style city hall and the main plaza with a huge rocking chair up front. Copala is the final destination of this trip, this enchanting village was built off road, right in the Sierra Madre mountains; its magnificent scenery invites you to stroll on the cobblestone streets looking at small houses with red roofs and wide adobe walls, covered with different kinds of flowers. Here you will enjoy a delicious Mexican lunch with time to stroll the streets afterward to wander up to the the San Jose temple and the picturesque main plaza before heading back to Mazatlan.

Jesus was a fantastic guide and driver for the town of Concordia and the Village of Copala, with other interesting, brief stops along the way. The lunch in Copala (fajita’s etc, “hit the spot”. Anyone visiting Mazatlan should at least take a peek into the interior = foothills of the Sierra Madre….

Great tour guide

Eduardo was fantastic and very knowledgeable. We would have liked to have seen a little more in the towns- though for the most part most folks have left due to the economy. It was sad to see the villages so deserted. Food for lunch was great and Eduardo made the trip worth it.

Rural Enlightenment!

Humberto Ruiz, our guide, was excellent. Viator needs to update their tour description as we expected to eat lunch in Capola and visit a craft store. With that said lunch in Mazatlán was excellent.

Pros: our driver 'Smiley' was a little early at our hotel to pick us up, I think he was as excited as the seven of us were to go on this trip. We boarded the air conditioned van and headed out on our tour. Smiley explained the city as we excited Mazatlán, and didn't hesitate a moment when we would interrupt him for a question or two. The PA system in the vehicle was a huge plus to hear our guide without any straining. Our stop included the Bakery and Tile shop, which was presented in a understandable way for all of us to enjoy. and realize the effort and skill needed, knowing the trade was being passed down the next generation. Smiley explained the church and government buildings and the architecture of how and why they were built, burned and restored. The pottery shop was a hit once again, and purchases made were signed and dated by the shop workers or owners. The city on top of the mountain where we enjoyed a authentic Mexican lunch, was amazing and it was fun to visit with the locals and see the hand carvings of the next generation of craftsmen. Truly something you should be exposed to in your our lifetime. the new hyway is now complete and Smiley took us on a section of it on our return trip, describing its construction and importance to the transportation of goods, people and services to the beautiful country of Mexico. cons: a fair amount of walking,
