Santa Croce, Florence, Metropolitan City of Florence, Italy
Make your way to Piazza dell' Unità, where this tour begins, then learn the basics of Florence cuisine as you walk to the first stop of the day, a local market. Taste freshly rolled pasta, extra virgin olive oil, truffles, and cantucci biscuits, crunchy almond cookies that are beloved in Tuscany. Whet your appetite for the rest of the tour with small bites that combine prosciutto, cheeses, and seasonal garnish—as you nibble, your guide will share the delicious history of eating appetizers before meals.

Continue to the next foodie destination to try typical Florentine dishes and get the scoop on the ingredients, history, and preparation of each. Throughout the tour, you’ll see a combination of classic Florentine highlights and lesser-known destinations, walking past the Duomo, the Santa Croce Basilica, San Lorenzo Market, Palazzo Vecchio, and the Piazza della Signoria.

Finish the tour with a sweet note, capping off the meal with a dish or cone of Italian gelato: the beloved treat has been a favorite with Florentines since the Renaissance. This food tour of Florence concludes at the Santa Croce Basilica.

Tasty, informative afternoon

Started in the San Lorenzo market where we Tasted several kinds of delicious hand made ravioli and then stopped in a shop for tastings of truffles, olive oil, aged balsamic vinegars and pistachio cream. (We picked up a bottle of 10-year old balsamic to take home.) Next we walked through the city stopping at interesting historical points including the Duomo. Final tastings included authentic stops for lasagna, eggplant parmesan and the best place for hand crafted gelato. Our guide was friendly and knowledgeable and this was a great way to see some Florence sites, learn about Florence and taste some authentic Italian food. We only had 4 people in our group so it was very personal tour. The meeting point was easy to find.

We had an excellent tour guide. I learned so much and I wish we had done this the first day we got to Italy. It would have definitely helped narrow down our choices of food we wanted to order. The food was great and our tour guide was happy to answer all our questions!!

Our tour guide, Alice, gave us such an amazing look at classic, traditional Florence food, while talking about the history of the city as we traveled from place to place. We loved learning about the city and the food, as well as tasting several delicious samples from local spots. If you get a chance, make sure you try and schedule this tour for your trip!
