Your tour begins with an early morning departure. Arriving at Chichen Itza, join your specialized guide for an in-depth tour of the site, and enjoy the tranquility of your early-morning visit before the crowds arrive. Throughout the trip, your archaeological guide’s commentary provides essential background to the well-preserved site of Chichen Itza. Learn how this large pre-Colombian city played an important role in Mayan civilization from around A.D. 600 to 1200, and remained a center of worship and pilgrimage until the arrival of the Spanish. Even today, it is still considered a sacred site by the Yucatán peninsula’s Maya population. Like many of ancient Mexico’s cities, the site was abandoned, and its ruins were hidden by jungle. Hear how the site was discovered and unearthed by archaeologists, gaining UNESCO protection and considered today one of the New Seven Wonders of the World. Your guide will explain the philosophy, cosmology and mythology behind this ancient site, such as the meaning of the stone carvings, pyramids, platforms, ball courts and staircases. Visit the Observatory, Temple of the Jaguars, Temple of the Warriors and of course the famous El Castillo, also known as the Temple of Kukulkan.  Return around 3:00 p.m. With this Viator Exclusive, your early morning trip to Chichen Itza helps you to beat the crowds so you can enjoy the remainder of the afternoon at your own leisure!

good experience, but you don’t get to chichen itza early
Je_Tim
, Jun 2021
so this claims you will get “early access” to chichen itza and miss the crowds. However, even though we were picked up at 6am, we did not get to the actual site until 12pm. This tour is filled with a lot of bus travel. However, our tour guides and bus driver were really friendly and knowledgeable, and the guides spoke fluent English too so that was helpful for us. The stops were nice. You stop first at a cathedral for about 30 minutes, then you stop at a Mayan collective village, which is like a small tourist attraction run by 50 local families. There is a store with souvenirs, a restaurant, and more. A Mayan priest performs a ceremony on the tour group wherein he asks for permission from the Mayan entities to enter chichen itza and the cenote. Then, we are given time to shop and then fed our lunch. The third stop is chichen itza. It’s very easy to get separated from your guide and group, so I recommend staying very close. Our guide was very knowledgeable and explained in-depth to us about the temples, Mayan culture, Mayan class structure, and more. The final stop is the cenote. I highly recommend taking advantage of the free tequila tasting, as the tequila there was much smoother and tasted better than anything I’ve ever tried before. The cenote itself is beautiful as well and is a nice and refreshing end to the day. Just make sure to pack an extra pair of clothes and a towel so you can be dry for the bus ride back. Overall it was a good experience and a really nice addition to our stay in Mexico.

BEST DAY EVER

ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. I can’t recommend enough! Marco and his crew are PHENOMENAL. We learned so much aboutt the ancient Mayans, got amazing pictures, ate the most AMAZING lunch, and swam in a beautiful cenoté. My boyfriend lost is Apple Watch in the cenoté when he jumped in and the lifeguard offered to dive down and get it for him and actually found it! Everyone was so nice and well informed, ESPECIALLY Marco. We did the 6am tour and even though it was a long day it was 100000% worth it. Book this tour you won’t regret it!

Fun getaway

First I want to start by sharing just how great this team of Antonio and David were. We could not have had more knowledgeable or better guides. I loved the excursion overall. I will say from Cancun this is a long way away, so be prepared for that. Also we got a little hung up on the lunch/shopping stop and came back about 30 minutes later than was planned, which impacted our dinner plans, otherwise I may have given it a 5.

This was a great trip! Marcos was a very knowledgeable guide. We drove through valladolid and then went to chichen itza. After, we went to eat. Finally we visited a cenote for an hour. He excelled at making you feel comfortable! It was easy to figure out a place to be picked up at, even being at an Airbnb. I definitely recommend this amazing day trip!

Cancelled on me last minute
Moe

They canceled on me last minute. I was suppose to depart at 6:30am to see Chichen Itza. At 7:30am I get notified the trip was cancelled. It was too late to book any other trip to see ruins. Very dissapointed, I came to Cancun to see these ruins and I was robbed of the chance.

We received a message day before excursion to promptly be ready by pick up time. They were late picking us up. It is a 2 hour drive to destination from Cancun so if u can I would recommend a splurge on your own vehicle so your not crammed in a bus. We had a passenger who was coughing the WHOLE trip it was very crappy. Her eyes were blood shot, runny nose, she was pale and obviously sick. I'm unsure as to why she wasn't asked to sit out or why she didn't take the initiative to not be selfish and just sit out. Our tour guide Vicente was awesome!! He was very educational and informative. Great sense or humor and took amazing pictures for us. Very satisfying. Cenote was gorgeous also. Pyramids were AMAZING. As long as the trip was I don't forsee myself doing it a 2nd time.
