Overview

This full-day tour from Cancun packs a sightseeing punch—see Valladolid, a 16th-century colonial city, visit the ancient Maya civilization of Chichen Itza, a UNESCO Site, and have a chance to participate in an ancient Mayan purification ritual of Temazcal guided by a real shaman. In the archaeological zone, admire the Kukulkan pyramid and the Temple of Warriors. A guide explains the cultural importance of the landmarks you stroll past. Spend leisurely time relaxing in the peaceful cenote of Ik-Kil. With round-trip hotel transport, this is a hassle-free experience you don’t want to miss. *Please note that cenote Ik Kil is still closed and on the tour, at the moment, we will visit the cenote Selva Maya, which is very similar to Ikkil, until Ikkil is opened.

Good history lesson

Fantastic tour and guides. Carlos was a great guide. Chichen Itza is a must see at least once. The vendors are a bit much inside the park. Loved how the tour guides have us a point of view of the Mayan History. Too plbad the Spaniards burnt all their books to fully understand the history of the Mayan people. Food: Wow! The cochinita is a must. Cenote: very nice, but crowded. Vallodolid: quick stop at the square for desserts or snacks. Other than that, never really spent quality time here. Overall a great trip!

Shady tour guide

Visiting the Chichen Itza was great to see. Hot so glad I brought an umbrella. The rest of the trip was a bust - lunch was not good at all and they took a photo with a cellphone of you before entering but didn’t say what the photos were going to be used for-shady! The tour guide was a bit overbearing and brought kids on the bus to sell their products. Shady business. Bring your own food, umbrella and water. If you have mobility issues don’t even think about swimming/ the stairs down are not safe.

Dear Travelers! Thank you for the feedback! Every opinion is very important for us and help us to make better our service! Some moments to clarify: As for lunch, we offer a buffet of traditional Yucatan meal on this tour. These are meat, chicken, chilaquiles, panuchos, rice, spaghetti, beans, boiled vegetables, a variety of fresh vegetables and fruits. All products are fresh and prepared before the arrival of the group. Please contact us to clarify what you didn't like about the lunch and we will take this point into account. Regarding the Shady guide and Shady business: at the entrance to the restaurant, you are photographed against the colorful background of the restaurant and after the visit to Chichen Itza, you are offered to buy a memorable bottle of Xtabetun liqueur with your photo printed on the bottle. The guide explains you it before you go to the restaurant. Obviously, you can refuse to be photographed and do not have to buy a souvenir at all. The guys get on the bus to give the bottles to the tourists who decided to buy them. And these are not kids, but young people of 18-20 years old. In any cenote equipped for swimming, you need to be careful when going down and up. Stairs and descents are generally very similar in all cenotes. For those travelers seeking more personalized experience we usually recommend to book a private tour, where you will be picked up by private transport, you will have your own personal certificated guide and you will enjoy your own private experience having the opportunity to customize the tour. Please don´t hesitate to contact us, if there is anything else we can help you with. Best regards, OlMar Travel Team

Spent most of the time on a bus
Noel_S
, May 2021
Our day started at 7am in the morning and we didn’t get to our first stop until 1pm. What usually is a 2 and a half hour trip was about a 5 hour trip. The other half is spent picking up other tourists at other hotels and rendezvous spots throughout different towns. Throughout the trip on the bus they’ll try and sell you bug spray, alcohol and “hand crafted” junk. We didn’t speak Spanish so everything had to be translated into English. The tour guide English wasn’t too strong so we couldn’t understand them well. The first stop isn’t even Chichén Itzá, it’s some remote village where they perform some form of ritual only to pawn you off on some more junk. The buffet was OK. Best part of the trip was the Chichén Itzá which you don’t arrive until 3pm but the experience is ruined by the classic Mexican vendors which is trashed throughout the site ruining its sacredness. Our guide has weak English and it was hard to learn any of the history. You finally make it to the Cenote which you have less than an hour to have fun and swim. I would highly encourage everyone to rent a car and drive themselves. Most of your time is spent on a bus. Our day started at 7am and ended close to 11pm due to having to drop everyone else off at different spots. What could’ve been a nice trip turned into a frustrating experience. There’s not much freedom due to being tied to this bus. If we rented a car and drove ourselves we would’ve saved over half the time spent. This company needs to have one rendezvous point to save so much time. Also there is no time for breakfast or dinner since you’re in a bus!

Dear Travelers! Thank you for the feedback! Every opinion is very important for us and help us to make better our service! We would like to clarify some points. As for the long road, now on the toll road, sometimes repairs are carried out, as you saw, we were in a traffic jam, as well as other vehicles heading towards Chichen Itza. These are force majeure circumstances, which, unfortunately, we cannot influence in any way. This is rare, but due to road work, we can return to the hotel later, and not just us, but everyone who drives on the toll road. If you had rented a car, you would have been standing in the same traffic jam. Regarding the picks up of tourists in other hotels. You have purchased a shared tour, and it is normal that we pick the tourists up at their hotels or meeting points, then we drop them off according to the order of hotels. We always try to keep the recollection time to a minimum, so we do not collect on the same bus from hotels in Cancun and the Mayan Riviera and we meet the hotels of downtown at the meeting points. For the tour starting from the Riviera Maya, we offer the option to buy drinks on the bus, as not all hotels operate on the all-inclusive system, and pick ups begin early, some tourists of hotels in this area do not have the opportunity to buy water or other drinks in advance, so this option exists. No one forces you to buy it, in addition, in the recommendations in the confirmation message, we advise you to bring bottled water with you. As for the street vendors of souvenirs in Chichen Itza, we, unfortunately, can not influence this either. If you arrive in Chichen Itza in a rented car, they will also be there. Your comment about the guide led us to inspect this case, as all our guides are experienced, verified and we do not receive complaints about their work. We interviewed other tourists who were present with you on the tour, no one had any complaints, everyone understood the guide perfectly and was satisfied with his work. Regarding car rental, here you have the right to choose for yourself whether to go on a tour where you have all entrance tickets, payment for the toll road, lunch, cenote, comfortable transport and a guide included, or rent a car and pay for everything yourself.

We got picked up right in front of our hotel at 8AM and travelled to Chichén Itzá by bus. It took us about 4 hours with a stop for lunch in between. The buffet was delicious and there were also vegetarian options. The trip was very well organized and our guide Carlos was very experienced! It was indeed very hot outside, but the swim at Ik Kil Cenote saved us. The tour guides were very friendly and answered all our questions. Valladolid was a very short stop (20 mins), but long enough to get some tasty corn and churros. We met great people on the bus and the length of the tour was perfect. The drive is exhausting but there is air conditioning on the bus. One important thing: bring enough water, sunscreen, a hat and maybe even an umbrella! Thank you for this amazing day, it made our México trip a lot more adventurous:)
