Begin with pickup at your Cancun hotel, then travel to Coba, where the ruins of a vast city are still surrounded by thick jungle. Listen for tropical bird calls as you follow tree-lined paths to temples and ancient roads, then climb to the top of Nohoch Mul, a 137-foot (42-meter) pyramid that’s the tallest in the Yucatan Peninsula.

Continue to Tulum, where the historic fortifications drop away to a white sand beach and clear water. See the Temple of the Diving God, the Temple of the Frescoes, and El Castillo, and learn about life in this compact, strategically located city.

After exploring the sites, you’ll experience the living Maya culture: meet a temazcalero, or shaman, who will introduce you to the traditional temazcal sweat lodge. Start with a cleansing ceremony using aromatic herbs and copal, then enter the temazcal. The temazcalero will guide you through four heating and cooling cycles as you listen to songs and instrumental music, and use aromatic herbs, mud, honey, aloe vera, and refreshing teas.

Experiencing the temazcal as a private tour means that the shaman can adjust the heat to your preferences, and tailor the time to your needs. After the temazcal session, refresh yourself in a cool bath, then enjoy fresh fruits and water. After the temazcal portion of the tour, which lasts roughly 1.5 hours, make the return trip to Cancun, where this tour concludes.

The aroma of herbs and copal will give allow you to feel at ease, purify the body and create space to get rid of bad energies and purify intentions. Using aromatic herbs, mud, honey, aloe vera and refreshing teas, the temazcalero will guide you through four intervals of increasing and decreasing heat (by opening the door of the temazcal), and enjoy the curative powers along with songs and musical instruments.  In any moment, you can leave the temazcal or ask the shaman to increase or reduce heat. This experience will allow you to find a space of positive and curative energies towards the body and spirit, as well as relaxation. Before the tour: On website, our tour was set to start at 8am, but got an email stating it was at 10am. When I inquired about this via email, they took awhile to respond affirming it was at 10am with no reasoning. On my arrival to Cancun, I called and their reasoning to change to 10am was because they wanted us to have a better experience at Temazcal. It is apparently better at night or when it is darker. During Tour: We had Carlos as our guide and Adrien as our driver. They were both amazing and our entire group felt safe with them. They gave us a run down of the day and even waited for us to get bathing suits from our rooms, which is needed for the temazcal. Carlos was also unsure why our tour started at 10am, he said they normally start at 8am because of the long day. We felt rushed through every site because we were trying to make our scheduled 4pm for the Temazcal. Carlos was very knowledgeable of the history and local workings of the entire area and all the sites. He even took us to a couple other spots outside of the itinerary. He knew all the perfects spots and angles for pictures. We had a group of 8 people. He kept us all in check or aware of what was going on. The Temazcal is definitely an experience for certain people. Half of our group really enjoyed while others were unable to do it. If you are claustrophobic I suggest you skip it. Overall a great tour, highly recommend it
