This full day adventure of the Big Island of Hawaii begins on the Kona coast, where you’re picked up from your Kona or Kohala hotel, and driven north on a scenic journey past historic Parker Ranch—which has operated as one of the largest ranches in America since 1847.

As you pass through the ranching town of Waimea, watch as the landscape changes from pastures to green, tropical rainforest, as sweeping views of the Hamakua Coast start creeping into view. During a stop at Waipio Valley lookout, marvel at the way the vertical cliffs seem to explode from the green valley floor and hear the tales of how King Kamehameha was raised in this valley as a child. The adventure continues as you wind your way down the Hamakua Coast, past roadside towns with singsong names until you reach Akaka Falls and Rainbow Falls.

Make your way back toward sea level at Punalu’u Beach, where you’ll take a stroll on a black-sand beach and search for Hawaiian green sea turtles. Head next to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, before rounding the southern tip of the island, the southernmost point in America. Look out for Kealakekua Bay, the spot where Captain Cook was killed in a skirmish with Native Hawaiians.

Stop at a Kona coffee farm to learn about the coffee growing process and walk through a lava tube.

Finally, your tour finishes back in Kona with a drop off at your hotel, where you’ve earned the right to plop on the bed and relax after the full day adventure.

Please note: Depending on weather conditions, your tour may operate in reverse order.

The volcanoes, black sand beaches, waterfalls and basically all of the beautiful scenery. Awahna was a great tour guide, too.

I highly recommend booking this tour in advance as it can sell out, and it’s easy to see why. There is no better way to cover and learn about the best parts of the island in one day, especially if you didn’t rent a car. Our tour guide, Miexia, was very knowledgeable, fun, patient, and kind. (Bonus was our group was also a lot of fun!) My mom and I both thought the tour was the highlight of our trip, and I’ve already recommended it to several friends who are planning to visit the Big Island in the near future. Mahalo Wasabi Tours and Miexia!

The entire trip was very memorable. From eating delicious pastries, to the black sand beach and sea turtles, to magnificent scenery and views, to the volcanoes and waterfalls and topped off with one of the most beautiful sights I have ever seen, it was a great journey. Well worth the time and money.

Complete Island picture, but long

It was a tour of the entire island as advertised. All the major features were included. That being said, it makes for a very long day, 12 hours versus the 8 hours we were expecting. We ran put of steam before it was over.

Best Long Day Ever!

, Jul 2022
This tour was the BEST long day EVER! I've spent a lot time on Oahu, Kauai and Maui but had never explored the big island. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable about not only the history of the big island but in all the history and Hawaiian culture! He was funny and a clear communicator making us feel comfortable every step of the way! Most importantly he made us feel like Ohana! I loved that this particular tour gave us a taste of every flavor of this glorious island and people! The vans are roomy enough and with frequent enough stops to stretch the legs out. I lived the individual air conditioning controls yeah! I highly recommend this tour and request Drew he is amazing, Mahalo
