Dating back to 1653, Royal Delft (Koninklijke Porceleyne Fles) is the world’s best-known manufacturer of the Netherlands’ iconic blue-and-white porcelain goods. The factory—the only such manufactory that remains from the 17th century—is open to travelers looking to learn about this one-of-a-kind hand-painted stoneware.
The Basics
Visitors come to Royal Delft to learn about the history of this unique art and see modern master painters at work. Free audio tours are available in multiple languages, and guided tours are available with prior reservation. Tours includes a peek at the Dutch Royal Family Chamber, as well as the opportunity to explore the factory’s own museum, where hundreds of antique Delft pieces are prominently displayed.

When to Get There
The factory is open from 9am to 5pm daily from mid-March through the end of October, and Sunday hours are reduced during the winter months to 12pm to 5pm (check ahead for exact dates, as they can fluctuate). The factory closes at 4pm on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Day and is shut on Christmas and Boxing Day (December 26) and on January 1.
How to Get There
The factory is located just outside the center of Delft, a 15-minute walk from the railway station and a 20-minute walk from Market Square. It takes about 20 minutes by car to reach the factory from The Hague, and free parking is available around the building.

Royal Delft offers a variety of special events and activities, including tile-painting classes, master classes, and temporary exhibits featuring the works of contemporary Dutch artists. Custom items are also available, including commemorative tiles and plates to mark the birth of a baby, as well as corporate gifts.
