Spencer’s Oxford Pub Tour (Private)

Spencer’s Oxford Pub Tour (Private)

star-5
5
Enjoy a few drinks and relax as I show you around this magnificent city - including stops in some of the most interesting and historic pubs in the world, to see where so many famous figures of the past have spent their student loans. The city of Oxford is commonly considered to be divided into two groups: the Town (local residents) and the Gown (students of the University). While I am currently a ‘townie’, I have been awarded a place to study at Oxford this year - and my fiancé is currently studying a DPhil. This gives me a unique perspective on both sides of the community and the city, and I will share it with you in a tour so entertaining and memorable that you will wish you lived here, or your money back! If you'd like to go into any colleges or other attractions, or if you wish to customise the tour in any other way, please feel free to message me. Group size is flexible. £60 for up to 4 people; £10 per additional person. Drinks not included!

Pilgrims and Pit Stops: A Canterbury Trail Walking Audio Tour by VoiceMap

Pilgrims and Pit Stops: A Canterbury Trail Walking Audio Tour by VoiceMap

star-3.5
3
Chaucer, murderers, pilgrims, actors, witches. Canterbury is not simply a city of pleasant coffee-shops and quaint gardens. The shady corners and ancient buildings conceal stories, mysteries, and speculation. This will be a whistle-stop and anecdotal tour of one of the most famous cities in England. Walk in the footsteps of the medieval pilgrims, who flocked to see the shrine of St Thomas Becket. Along the way, you will pick up some quirky facts and – importantly – some eating and drinking tips! The total walking distance is about 2km and takes just over half an hour without stopping. The VoiceMap app uses your location to trigger each part of the walk automatically. So, relax, enjoy exploring and feel free to pause the tour at any point!

Both Oxford University alumni Lewis and Tolkien are respectively known for the Narnia series and The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings trilogy. During the tour you will be able to see Exeter College, where Tolkien studied and the University Church where Lewis preached in WW2 and hear about the colleges where they taught. Moreover, you’ll walk past the Eagle & Child pub, where The Inklings used to meet every Tuesday, to talk about their work. Discover more about their unique writing styles and their influence. This is definitely a jump back in time and it will give you a glimpse of how Oxford used to be in the early 20th century, and of course earlier.
