Duncansby Head, located in northern Scotland, is the northernmost point on the British mainland. It is a set of dramatic sandstone cliffs that overlook the sea. Some of the cliffs reach up to 200 feet high. Exploring the area along the coastal pathway will give you a great opportunity to see some of the region's unique seabirds and other wildlife. Some of the birds you might see include guillemot, kittiwakes, and puffins, depending on the time of year.

From Duncansby Head, visitors will have a view of the Duncansby Stacks, a group of large jagged sea rocks, and Thirle Door, a rocky arch. Sometimes it is also possible to catch a glimpse of some of the sea life here, including seals, dolphins, minke and killer whales. The nearby village of John O'Groats is the northernmost settlement on the mainland of Britain, and the Duncansby Head Lighthouse marks the northernmost point.

Adorable puffins are guaranteed on this tour of some of our busiest local puffin roosts with an experienced ecologist. Whether you have your own transportation or not, we will get you that sighting. But more importantly, the magical experience of the Caithness puffin colonies. Watch them take off and climb into their burrows, flying overhead amongst other seabirds. Spot common and black guillemots, fulmar, razorbills, and cormorants using high powered binoculars. Look out for our grey seals, or on a lucky day, out local whales and dolphins. There are easy routes and tougher trails that get you up close for hardier hikers, different colonies accessible by car or by public transportation! We'll suit this tour to you. Good walking boots are essential, and bookings are subject to cancellation during bad weather. Binoculars and ID guides provided. Please select a morning or afternoon slot, and meet at our departure point of the Thurso Bay Campground Car Park underneath the signage.
