The Basics

Old San Juan is a staple in city sightseeing tours, which offer an easy way to get an overview of the historic city and typically pass by other must-see sites such as La Fortaleza, the Capilla del Cristo, and the Santa María Magdalena de Pazzis Cemetery. More tailored options include food tours and walking tours with a private guide, while Segway tours or cruises on San Jose Bay are also popular alternatives in San Juan.

A taste of food and history!
We had Marjorie as our guide and she was great! She was very informative and fun. We were fed with the typical dishes of PR until our belts burst. Come hungry. We highly recommend this tour.

Flavors of Old San Juan Food Tour
Undoubtedly, the best part of the Old San Juan Tour was our upbeat guide, Itzel! Not only did she share the history of San Juan, she included fascinating tidbits about food, Puerto Rican facts and miscellaneous fun things. I’ve always been happy with tours booked through Viatour and this one certainly didn’t disappoint!
Great, informative tour! Highly recommended

Old San Juan Walking Tour
David was amazing. Very well versed, knowledgeable about the history of old San.Juan. nice, easy paced tour, we got water.bottles and mementos before starting. David cares so much about his city that tours for, he would even pick up trash water bottles along the path of his walking tour , and dump them in nearby bins. I wish more tourists and residents followed his example too and kept his city beautiful and clean. A great tour, just the right time length, and I highly recommend him.
Great experience!

Very good way to begin your stay in Puerto Rico. Our guide was kind and interesting. His love and pride for his country was heart-warming. I had a wonderful time and learned a lot. Gave me ideas of what I may want to go back to do in Old San Juan later.

Old San Juan Walking Tour
We really enjoyed hearing about the history of Old San Juan from David. He kept our attention and shared interesting details about the city. We did cover a lot of ground so we were thankful we had comfortable shoes. Water was provided for each guest and a brief break was given mid tour to rest/use the restroom. Definitely recommend!

City Tour San Juan historic, modern, beach and street art sightseeing
I travel regularly to Europe and Latin America and this is one of the best city tours I have ever taken. Jesus not only showed me the high point of Old San Juan, the beach areas and the Santurce arts district but also many interesting government buildings, universities and public art in lesser known areas. A+++

Sunset Harbor Boat Ride in San Juan
The boat ride was really nice. You’ll get a little history, mixed music, snack, unlimited beer, water and sodas. For what you pay this is great! The captain maneuvered around the waves and slowed the boat down when it was necessary. Also, the driver was on time picking us up from our hotel and when the boat docked. Book, enjoy and remember to bring your Covid proof!!!

How to Get There

Old San Juan is located on an islet, attached to the mainland of Puerto Rico by three bridges. If you’re coming from the mainland or the airport, book an airport transfer or drive over the bridges. Those arriving as Caribbean cruise ship passengers will likely dock at one of the many cruise ship piers in the neighborhood. Once in Old San Juan, getting around the area is easy by foot or taxi, and a free, accessible trolley system also runs through the area.

Other San Juan Neighborhoods

Old San Juan is perhaps the best-known of Puerto Rico's San Juan neighborhoods, but it's far from the only one. Venture slightly farther afield to upscale Miramar, home to two marinas; make your way to Condado, known for beachside condos; or stop in at Ocean Park, where you'll find some overlooked but beautiful beaches.
