Viale Vaticano, Vatican City

The Basics

The Vatican Museums is the most popular attraction in Rome, hosting millions of visitors each year. Booking a small-group guided tour or skip-the-line access in advance is highly recommended. A private tour offering early access in the morning, before the museums are open to the general public, is an excellent way to enjoy the Vatican’s treasures in relative peace. Many group tours include visits to the museums and Sistine Chapel along with St. Peter’s Basilica and the Vatican Gardens. There is a tremendous amount to take in here, so if you are traveling as a family with young children who may get overwhelmed, consider a guided kid-friendly tour that focuses on the museums' highlights.

Skip the Line: Vatican Museums and Sistine Chapel Entrance Tickets
No crowds, easy advanced reservations. There was some confusion when we arrived. Caller said go straight to entrance and show electronic reservations but guard said to go to another location to activate reservations.

The secrets of Vatican museums, virtual tour
The tour was amazing. My tour guide was very knowledgeable and eager to answer all questions. It's incredible that these virtual tours are offered, people who want to visit Italy or for those who cannot travel are given the opportunity to see the beauty of the Vatican. Thank you so very much.

The young man who took as on the tour was one that we felt lucky to have with us. He had taken the trouble to bring his tablet with him with various photos that helped us to understand what he was telling us. He seemed genuinely interested in what he was telling us and didn’t make us feel rushed at all. Any questions raised were answered Any group he takes should feel them selves very lucky to have him as their guide.

Fast- track- entry ticket to the Vatican Museums & the Sistine Chapel
Very good considering the difficult times. Felt very safe with temperature checks and insistence of face masks. The only downside was the £8 per headset very expensive and it is easy to share one if you are in a couple as they don’t come with headphones.

Fantastic knowledgeable guide and a great tour. Despite it being quieter at the moment is was worthwhile booking ahead and jumping the queue.

When to Get There

The Vatican Museums sees crowds of travelers year-round. It is busiest in summer, when skip-the-line tickets or a private tour guide are essential; the museums are relatively less crowded during winter. At any time of year, the museums are most crowded at midday, so aim to visit in the early morning or late afternoon if you’re looking for a quieter experience.

Seeing the Pope at the Vatican

Each week, usually on Wednesday mornings, the pope and cardinals give a papal address in St. Peter’s Square. Throngs descend for the papal audience, so be sure to book official tickets in advance if you want to be assured a chance to see the pope deliver his weekly message.
