The Basics

Departing from Rome, most Tivoli tours include visits to both Villa d'Este and Hadrian's Villa. Discover the favorite vacation spot of the Renaissance period at the famous Villa d'Este, commissioned by Cardinal Ippolito, and take in its highlights: the views from the Vialone Terrace and the movie-famous Oval Fountain and Hundred Fountains. At Hadrian's Villa, you'll tour the archaeological remains of temples, libraries, and thermal baths, including the Maritime Theater, set on a man-made island at the center of a round pool; the grand Piazza d'oro; the Imperial Palace; and the Canopus, a replica of the sanctuary of Serapis near Alexandria. Choose a half-day tour or full-day trip through the Lazio countryside with an expert tour guide to get the most out of your visit to the historic sites.

Tivoli Day Trip from Rome: Hadrian's Villa and Villa d'Este
We thoroughly enjoyed our day trip to Tivoli. Our guide was excellent and very informative at Hadrian's Villa as well as at Villa D'Este. Both places were beautiful in their own individual ways and we enjoyed each place we toured. Would recommend this tour to anyone wanting to see something outside of the Rome area.

Tivoli Day Trip from Rome: Hadrian's Villa and Villa d'Este
Our guide Joseph was amazing - very knowledgeable and helpful. Both sites were beautiful. The only thing I wish was clearer was lunch - we ended up owing money because it wasn’t clear what was the included lunch and what wasn’t.

Tour to Tivoli, villa d'Este, half day from Rome
Tivoli villa has beautiful gardens and fountains. It was nice to get out of the city and see some of the country side. After visiting the villa it is clear why they are a UNESCO world heritage site. The self guided tour provided by the villa was sufficient to understand and gain appreciation for the villa. Tivoli is very cute and fun to walk around as well. I recommend this trip to those who want to see more of the area outside of Rome.

Heritage Site: Villa d'Este and Hadrian's Villa in Tivoli Tour from Rome
Benjamin was our remarkable tour guide to Hadrian's Villa & Villa d'Este, and was superb! He has a wealth of information, which he shares in such as way as to make things come alive again! The weather was perfect, photos excellent, and Benjamin's professionalism was outstanding. As a return visitor to Rome, I had long waited to visit Villa Adriano. I was not disappointed in the least! Highly recommended to make this a "must do" visit!

Tivoli Day Trip from Rome with Lunch Including Hadrian's Villa and Villa d'Este
It was a beautiful day despite the showers. The Villas Adriana and d'Este were both respite from the busyness of the city. Our guide Elida was knowledgeable and amiable and took us to a delicious lunch between the places. The water features at Villa d"Este are spectacular, and I think I'll remember them more fondly than the ones at Versailles. It also surprises how the drivers maneuver through lanes with almost no clearance. Hats off to all of them and the incredibly hard-working guides.

Tivoli Day Trip from Rome: Hadrian's Villa and Villa d'Este
Visiting the villas in Tivoli is awesome! I am lucky enough that I visited Tivoli on a sunny day, and there were only a few visitors around. These two villas are the must-go in Italy. Besides, the guide Giuseppe is knowledgeable, providing adequate background of the history and development of the villas. He is also nice and caring. The tour was provided with sufficient time to hang around in the villa. This is an enjoyable experience.

When to Get There

The Villa d'Este is open from 8:30am to either 5pm or 7:45pm, depending on the season, while Hadrian's Villa is open from 9am to 5pm or 7pm, depending on season. Given Tivoli’s many gardens, spring is a great time to visit.
