The Basics

The Sainte Chapelle is part of the Palais de la Cité, and entrance is included with the Paris Museum Pass. Visitors can purchase a combination ticket including skip-the-line access to both the chapel and the adjoining La Conciergerie, where Marie Antoinette was imprisoned.

Official Sainte Chapelle tours are conducted in French only, so book a group or private tour if you want to explore the chapel with a guide. For the best value, opt for a walking tour of the Île de la Cité, which includes visits to other attractions such as the towers of Notre Dame or a Seine River cruise.

Sainte-Chapelle: The Glory of Paris
A glorious religious masterpiece of Gothic architecture. The staff are friendly and helpful. The visitor is enlightened with bilingual (English and French) information boards. The guide recommends spending an hour but you could stay all day.

Private Guided Tour in Paris Sainte Chapelle and Ile de la Cité
Great one-on-one experience. Not a “group tour” which enabled us to ask questions along the way. Ms Martin was very knowledgeable.

Private Guided Tour in Paris Sainte Chapelle and Ile de la Cité
Estelle did a great job sharing the Ile de Citi with us. She had a wealth of knowledge about the history of where the city of Paris began and Saine Chapelle was the highlight of the tour. We'll worth it!!!

Incredible Tour with Sylvanie

Notre Dame's Island with Sainte Chapelle and Marie Antoinette's prison
We visited Sainte Chapelle and the Conciergerie with Sylvanie and absolutely could not recommend it more. Sylvanie was so knowledgeable, witty, and entertaining, and we learned so much from our tour. In addition to the locations advertised, we also passed by several bonus places like Shakespeare & Company, and Sylvanie shared “secret” info about the city, including street art that we were able to identify for days and days after our tour with her. The Sainte Chapelle and Conciergerie are so rich with French history that we could not recommend visiting them more, and we would love to see Sylvanie again for another tour in the future!

Paris Skip the Line Sainte Chapelle and Conciergerie Combined Ticket
There were actually no lines to skip since we weren't visiting during touring season. But since they are so close it makes sense to have a combined ticket. Sainte Chapelle is a short but sweet tour. Very beautiful! And it was nice to learn more about Marie Antoinette and to see all the ways that she has been portrayed in pop culture.

Paris Sainte Chapelle in Palais de la Cité Skip the Line Entrance Ticket
The experience was good, although since it is winter, no big crowds and no need for skip the line here. One thing, when you go in, make sure you go upstairs where the really nice stained glass is. No one to tell you that, had to ask, and stairs are tough, but it was worth the climb.

The line was around the corner to visit the church. With our printed vouchers, we walked right to the front and saved ourselves hours of wait time. Totally worth it!

Notre Dame Quartier Sainte-Chapelle & Conciergerie 2H Private Tour in Paris
We had a wonderful, personal experience seeing the history of Notre Dame, the Conciergerie and Sainte Chapelle. We really enjoyed the history of the Conciergerie. It makes us want to read more about this time. Since it was just us and our guide we could ask so many questions. It was a great morning full of history and fun.

When to Get There

The Sainte Chapelle is open daily year-round, but it can get crowded in peak season, so opt for an early morning visit to avoid the crowds. The most impressive time to admire the stained glass windows is in the morning or late afternoon, when the sun shines directly through the glass.

The Upper Chapel

The magnificent Upper Chapel is the star attraction of the Sainte Chapelle. It’s encircled by 15 gigantic stained glass windows, each towering 49 feet (15 meters) high, which depict 1,113 scenes from the Old and New Testaments. The 13th-century artworks have been painstakingly restored and are joined by the 15th-century Rose Window to create a dramatic effect, bathing the chapel in multicolored light.
