Casa Crespo is Oaxaca in its kitchen. Tradition lives there, where chef Oscar Carrizosa, (originally from the Mixteca region) mixes the ingredients of the 16 ethnicities of Oaxaca with the original seasoning that he inherited from his grandma. It´s the perfect place to get to know the flavors and aromas of Oaxacan food in the classes that Oscar gives. To taste a good cup of coffee or a hot chocolate at Casa Crespo while getting ready for your market tour is also a good start to approach Oaxacan cuisine. Oscar, who is very friendly, also shows how to smell and identify the aromas that come of the dishes. He presents menu options and the students decide what they would like to cook. There is no fixed menu. He teaches how to cook 3 types of tortillas, 3 types of salsa, an appetizer, soup, mole, dessert and drink. Dishes that strive to remain in the taste buds and memory of those who love good eating.

* A traveler said: "We were guided by Filomeno to Mitla, the Sunday market at Tlocoluca, and an on-site weaving demonstration at a family business making carpets. Our tour was taken over at Mitla by a gentleman acquainted with Filomeno named Eduardo (I think?.....eek!), whose enthusiasm for and willingness to educate about the pre-Spanish cultures of the Oaxaca Valley were fascinating and exciting. We loved every moment of our stay at Mitla and had it not been so hot (and I so sunburned), we'd have happily stayed several more hours. Filomeno took us to the Sunday market, which was both different from and similar to others I've been to in Mexico (most notably outside of Guadalajara at Tonala). Filomeno helped me identify hand-sewn, locally made items so that I could make educated purchases and graciously answered our countless questions. At the carpet weaving business, we learned a lot more about human and organic chemistry than I expected, and was delighted with the lovely carpet I expect any day now that I'm home. Filomeno's RAV4 was comfortable and the trip was perfect. It was a very memorable day and I can't recommend Oaxaca Conmigo strongly enough. An utter delight and one I will repeat next time I visit!"

Oaxaca is a magical city. The skies are deep blue in the heart of the valley. Women in embroidered huipiles, colorful houses, flowers on the trees, parades and local people garnish the streets. And then there's the street art. We will be cycling around 3 neighbourhoods of the city visiting interesting spots, art workshops and of course, street art. They are everywhere: big murals, stencils, posters. Oaxacan Artists are abundant and very talented. It's like visiting an outdoor museum. Don Rosalio Felix treated my family and myself with courtesy and a deep regard for someone seeking knowledge beyond cursory and superficial facts about the people, place and events at Monte Alban. Without reservation I recommend the operator of this tour. On a closing note, Mr. Felix even accommodated our need for cool refreshments on what was a hot and very sunny August day.
