The Basics

Set in Midtown Manhattan, the 102-story skyscraper is a must for any first-time visitor to New York City. While it’s easy to catch a glimpse of the tower around the city, this attraction is best enjoyed from one of its two observation decks, where the panoramic views over the Big Apple are legendary. Tickets to one or both of the observation decks can be purchased solo, although the Empire State Building is also visited on many city sightseeing tours, which often also include stops at Times Square and the Statue of Liberty. If you plan to visit on your own during peak times, it’s a good idea to buy an Express Pass to skip the line all the way to the 86th floor.

Empire State Building General & Skip-the-Line Tickets
We are so glad we decided to splurge on the skip the line experience. We were treated like VIPs following the red carpet all the way to the top of the Empire State Building. The staff working at the experience were very friendly and helpful as well. The views from the top of the building should not be missed!

The New York Pass: 100+ Attractions including Empire State Building
Plan out ahead of time so you can enjoy as many attractions as possible. Empire State building was the easiest. Have to Start at M&M. Need to start early if u want to hop on and off cause bus only comes by once per hour. Top view is the best, might need a light jacket. Wonderful experience, very informative and friendly staff.

The tour is amazing. From start to finish. Before you go up stairs. The history of the building is spectacular, all of the videos and special effects are top notch. The people who work there are very friendly and courteous. The elevator trip was fun, watching the video while going up was fun and of course the view is breathtaking. Just an outstanding visit, well worth the few dollars it cost us.

Great experience but VIP wasn't worth it

Empire State Building General & Skip-the-Line Tickets
The Empire State Building was amazing but the VIP part was a waste of money because when we went there was no line to skip. So we paid double for something we couldn't use.

Empire State Building General & Skip-the-Line Tickets
We got there early for our weekday tour, and got lucky enough to not have to wait in line. I was surprised that there is so much more to see than just riding to the top. Lots of great history and information on how the Empire State Building was built! We took our 17, 15, 14, and 11 year olds and even the youngest who was a bit nervous about going to the top, enjoyed the trip. Only bummer is we couldn’t go outside due to lightning. The show from the inside was amazing though!

This is one of the main tourist attractions in nyc. It was a great view to see all over the city, but that's is it. There wasnt anything else to do.

New York City 1-Day Hop-on Hop-off with Empire State and Statue of Liberty
This experience was great! The stops aren't the easiest to find, so you want to make sure get back on the bus where you get dropped off. The audio tour is good too. We had a little trouble understanding how the ferry tour worked, but Ibrahim came to the rescue and answered all of our questions. He spent extra time with us printing out tickets we needed and gave us some pointers on how to get where we needed even faster. Without Ibrahim I'd rate this a 4, but because of his helpfulness, Im giving a 5!

When to Get There

Since the Empire State Building is one of New York’s most popular attractions, it’s best visited in the morning just after opening or late at night (the decks are open until 2am) when the lines are shortest. Expect longer lines for tickets, security, and the elevators on weekends, holidays, and just before sunset.

Which Floor Should I Visit?

The 86th-floor observatory, known as the Main Deck, is the highest open-air observatory in New York. Its wraparound deck is outfitted with high-power binoculars, making it possible to see Central Park, the Hudson River, the Brooklyn Bridge, and the Statue of Liberty from above. From the indoor Top Deck on the 102nd floor, visitors enjoy even more views (like Central Park in its entirety) and the chance to ride a manually operated Otis elevator. On the second floor, galleries house multiple hands-on exhibits.
