Puerta del Sol

Plaza Puerta del Sol, Madrid

The Basics

The bustling plaza began as a modern public space in the 1850s, when it featured the original city gates. Today, you’ll find sights like the Royal House of the Post Office (Real Casa de Correos), the clocktower Spaniards watch on New Year’s Eve, and Kilometer Zero—the starting point of Spain’s national roads.

Whether you head to Puerta del Sol on a Segway tour, use the Carlos III equestrian statue to find your bearings, or check out the square while exiting the Sol metro stop, expect to show up at the plaza sometime while you’re in Madrid.

10-Day Andalucia Tour from Lisbon: Cordoba, Costa del Sol and Toledo
Except for the transition bus from Lisbon to Spain, the rest of the tour went well. I would suggest a better bus seating arrangement though because of confusion due to tourist coming in and going out of the tour within the 6 Day period.

10-Day Andalucia Tour from Lisbon: Cordoba, Costa del Sol and Toledo
A great way to see Southern Spain. Our guide was amusing and informative. there is no need to arrange any other city tours since there is not enough time for them Use your free time to wander around on your own. Make sure you go on the Flamingo show in Seville. It was a highlight of the tour. We took the standard accommodations and found them more than adequate and saved quite a bit over the Deluxe hotels.

10-Day Andalucia Tour from Lisbon: Cordoba, Costa del Sol and Toledo
The trip was great. We enjoy the trip. But it could be better if we get more info about what we were going to see before visiting the places. Especially, we don't speak spanish so it would be more enjoyable if the tour leader will provide additional info. for us

10-Day Andalucia Tour from Lisbon: Cordoba, Costa del Sol and Toledo
Our guide, Maria Delucas, was wonderful. She was patient throughout, even when some people didn't understand the importance of promptness or following directions. Our group was from different countries, and the pace was excellent and interesting. We selected the 4 star option, which I recommend, and all of the hotels met this standard with the exception of the Hesperia in Cordoba, which was below par. We had to change busses 3 times due to mechanical problems, including one with a brand new bus, but the changes were done quickly and without excessive delay. My only suggestion would be to skip Torremolinos, which was too crowded and where we had insufficient time to enjoy and we were dropped off in Madrid on a busy street corner and left to our own devices although Marisa did get us a taxi. An off-street drop off point would be much better.

10-Day Andalucia Tour from Lisbon: Cordoba, Costa del Sol and Toledo
This was a great tour that included most of the moorish history of Spain. The mesquite in Cordoba and the Alhambra in Granada were the major draw cards of this tour. Also Seville was included and a quick trip to Merida, which wasn't actually on the itinerary. We also had a night at Torremolinos, showing a different side to Andalucia. The optional flamenco o performance was worth seeing. The tour was not rushed and included ample free time. It included breakfast and dinners and was very good value for money. Our guide Oriol was professional and was very helpful especially with hotel check ins. We opted for the tourist hotel and they were fine.
