Shoreditch

Shoreditch, London

The Basics

The best way to explore the district is on a walking tour, taking in highlights like Brick Lane, the famous Spitalfields Market, and the main thoroughfares of Old Street, Great Eastern Street, and Shoreditch High Street. Alternatively, explore the district’s renowned street art on a photography tour; discover hip bars, music venues, and clubs on a Shoreditch pub crawl; or taste some of the East End’s best street food on a food tour of Shoreditch.

Shoreditch Street Art Tour London
This isn't a tour of the obvious graffiti writing but the often tiny hidden gems of art placed in the streets. Dave is so passionate and knowledgeable about each artist. A real eye opener to what you think street art is.

Shoreditch Street Art Tour London
Dave our guide was a truly outstanding tour guide with an excellent knowledge of the street art/graffiti not only in Shoreditch but worldwide. It was clear to tell that he loved doing the tours with a pleasant personality. Tally ho was his jingle… we would never have found what we were shown and to finish with a Banksy; what more could you want. Highly recommend.

Things to Know Before You Go

  • Get an early start on market day (Sunday) to avoid the crowds.

  • Plan to do a fair bit of walking and bring a map; the maze of lanes and side-streets makes it easy for non-locals to get lost.

  • The closest wheelchair-accessible station is Shoreditch High Street Overground.

When to Get There

There’s always something going on in Shoreditch, whether it’s free concerts and cinema screenings in Shoreditch park, local bands playing at one of the live music venues, or all-night parties at the latest underground club. Be sure to visit on Sunday, when the Brick Lane Market, Old Spitalfields Market, and Columbia Road Flower Market all draw big crowds.

Brick Lane

At the southeast end of Shoreditch and running all the way to Whitechapel, Brick Lane is one of the neighborhood’s cultural hubs. With a large Bangladeshi community and many restaurants specializing in Indian and South Asian cuisine, it’s earned the name “London’s Curry Mile.” There’s more to Brick Lane than great food, though; it also hosts a Sunday street market, and has some of East London’s most impressive street art, vintage shops, and art galleries.
