Fantastic day eating up the local scene in Amsterdam with Thijs!
Fantastic day today walking and eating with Thijs! Thijs navigated us through the beautiful neighborhood of Jordan where he shared a deep understanding of the local food scene and history. Be sure to go hungry. The food served was all local, diverse, and high quality. The shop owners were friendly and welcoming. I would highly recommend this tour!

Absolutely the best!

Small-group Dutch Food and History Walking Tour in Amsterdam's Jordaan Area
We have been on food tours around the world and we consider this tour with Rudolph the best. He is a natural. His vivacious personality coupled with his wealth of knowledge made it outstanding. We tried food that we probably wouldn't have if we were on our own. We visited a fish store, a pub that served the best apple pie, the local market to have a warm stroopwafel and some Indonesian food, a wine tasting room owned by some fellow Americans, a bar where we sampled local gin and beer, a plate of various sausages and meat, and cheese. Even though the food was great (and plentiful), having Rudolph share his vast knowledge of Amsterdam and the rest of the Netherlands added to this great experience. Rudolph answered everybody's questions thoroughly. I can't say enough positive things about this tour. If you decide to take the tour, ask for Rudolph.

Small-group Dutch Food and History Walking Tour in Amsterdam's Jordaan Area
My boyfriend and I were lucky enough to have Thijs as our guide. We learnt so much and loved walking through the beautiful streets of Amsterdam. The different bites we had were so tasty and such a lovely variety. It felt like we were walking around with a good friend who introduced us to the local baker, butcher and cafe owners. Felt welcomed everywhere and Thijs was so amazing with answering so many questions and telling us great stories (factual ones and entertaining ones :) ). Would recommend to anyone who enjoys good food, company and beautiful sites... while learning about the incredible city of Amsterdam at the same time. This is great value for money and the 4 hours went by so quickly... time does fly when you are having fun. I will do this again when I have friends or family who visit. Dank je voor alles Thijs!

I was in town while my husband had business meetings. Decided to take the tour. It was amazing! The group I was in was interesting and so nice. We enjoyed each other while learning so much about the Jordaan neighborhood and Amsterdam. Our guide, Thijs, was fun and knowledgable and amazing. We learned a lot and ate amazing food, while learning the history and local story behind the food and drink. I couldn't recommend it any more. This is fantastic!

Half-Day Tour of Red Light District and Jordaan District with Private Guide in Amsterdam
I truly enjoyed this tour. Tony was an awesome guide, and was very flexible. We had to stop back at our hotel prior to starting because we had packages to drop off, and he didn’t blink. Highly recommend this tour if you are in Amsterdam. Bring you walking shoes though!

We really enjoyed our tour with Rudolph. All the food was delicious and he was a very congenial host. He clearly loves Amsterdam and shared many interesting details about the history of the city and the culture of its inhabitants today. His pace was easy to follow and made for a relaxing experience. Be ready to eat - the portions are generous and filling!

When to Get There

For smaller crowds, the best time to visit Amsterdam is between April and May or September and November—before or after the summer high season. On Saturdays, go early to beat the crowds at Lindengracht market to shop for cheese, fresh fish, flowers, and handcrafted items. On Monday mornings, Westerstraat market features food stalls and all manner of clothing, from up-market brands to vintage.

Statue Spotting

As you stroll the picturesque canals, in between jaunts to coffee shops and markets, pay attention to the statues scattered throughout the neighborhood. They commemorate various local heroes such as Dutch patriot Johnny Jordaan and folk singers who helped to make Jordaan the Greenwich Village of Amsterdam—people such as Tante Leen and Manke Nelis whose likenesses stand at the corner of Prinsengracht and Elandsgracht.
